ATA2:00: link is slow to respond....

Hi, my computer boot only in emergency mode ... Looking the journalctl (command journalctl -xb), I found (in thejournalctl ) these lines in red color : ATA2:00: link is slow to respond.... (and after..) ATA200: SRST failed (erro 16) That seem indicate that it is a problem to access the HDs.. I found a possible solution to the problem in this post: http://codeverge.com/opensuse.org.help.install/-solved-ata1-srst-failed-err… There is wrote that :...the problem can depend by the physic set up of the HD (as "master", "slave", "single drive", ...): this set up can be done by changing the position of a jumper on the HD... I know that, in the past time, the HDs had to be set physically in this way.., but recently I never heart anymore that the modern HD need this operation.. So actually I don't care anymore of the configuration of the HDs (my HD is Toshiba 1 TB that I bought few mounts ago). I would like to have a confirmation that what I read in the post is only an obsolete information and, in any case, I would like to know also what I can do to go around in my problem.. >From the command line: ls /dev/sd* I get: give me this input : /dev/sda /dev/sda1 /dev/sda2 /dev/sda5 /dev/sdb /dev/sdb1 /dev/sdb2 Thank you regards Angelo

New kernels won't boot

My trusty old IBM T30 laptop will no longer boot with the latest kernel-4.7.9-200.fc24.i686 kernel-4.8.4-200.fc24.i686 kernel-PAE-4.8.4-200.fc24.i686 It will still boot kernel-4.7.7-200.fc24.i686 The grub2 menu is displayed, and after selecting the 4.7.7-200 kernel there's a 2-3 sec delay with blinking cursor, then I'm prompted for the encryption passphrase for the /home filesystem. Then the voluminous messages (from removing the rhgb boot option) scroll forth and bootup proceeds normally. However, If I choose any of the newer kernels, the blinking cursor remains forever; no prompt for the encryption passphrase occurs; the keyboard is totally non-responsive. Power cycling is required to recover. Things I've tried: - dnf remove <the "bad" kernel>, and reinstall it. - Rebuild initramfs-4.8.4-200.fc24.i686.img with dracut. The new file is only one byte bigger, probably due to a different date, and still won't boot. - Added the secret 'dis_ucode_ldr' boot option, as revealed in https://www.reddit.com/r/Fedora/comments/4qrl1k/kernel_46_wont_boot_how_can… but this seemed aimed at newer IBM laptops, and indeed, had no effect on my T30. - Updated the BIOS. The T30 has two components: the BIOS and the EC (Embedded Controller). My BIOS was up to date at version 2.10 but the EC was v. 1.03, while v. 1.07 was available. Sadly, updating to EC v. 1.07 did not alleviate the problem. Any thoughts, shared experience, commiserations, suggestions? What can be so different about these newer kernels? -- David A. Screen rapidly blanking on and off

I've run into a problem with my Dell Inspiron where the screen blanks every second, unless I'm typing or moving the mouse. Spinning the mouse around the screen will keep the screen lit, while typing will blank between keystrokes, and I'm a fair 70 wpm typist. This ia Fedora 23 64 bit installation, and I've seen the problem on all three of the current kernel installs, Linux jupiter.in.tedroche.com 4.7.4-100.fc23.x86_64 #1 SMP Thu Sep 15 18:48:53 UTC 2016 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux 4.7.4, 4.7.5, and 4.7.6. WD My Passport Ultra 3T usb drive problem

Everyone, I just purchased 3 WD My Passport Ultra 3T usb drives that I had hoped to use for archive files for some digital images. Looks like WD has made it difficult to use for Linux. The google searches that I did stepped me through mounting it on a Windows 10 system and then formatting it with nts. Unfortuantely, when I tried to connect it to Fedora 24 I am still not able to recognize it to mount it. All of the /dev/sd* entries were the same before and after I plugged it in. Smartmontools appears to recognize it when it is plugged in a usb port, but pauses and does not finish its execution to completion. gparted scans all devices and does not finish when the drive is plugged in a usb port. Has anyone in the group figured out how to use these drives? Thanks for you help!!!! Greg Ennis

Is it possible for me to find this information using tools available on the F24 repositories? Go language

Hi, everyone, I loaded go using dnf... sudo dnf install go I am on an AMD64 system with F24 installed. The issue is that the /usr/share/gocode/src/code.google.com/p was empty. I installed the golang...devel package and it added the go.tools directory with several subdirectories and other things. The issue is that the various libraries needed by the code I am working on are not loaded. I downloaded the latest archive from golang.org and it appears the various things that I need, or at least most of them are in the archive. The problem is that removing the go packages via DNF will probably decimate the system. So how do I remove the current package or update it with the required libraries? I have not been successful in searching for the required packages or libraries using dnf. Regards, Les H

fedora create livecd creator fails with LXDE ks, and with package conflicts

Hello, I am aware that a more appropriate place to post would have been the livecd list which is archived at https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/livecd@lists.fedoraproject.or… but since the archives seem to be pure spam for the past two months, I am not sure if anyone reads it any more. So, I thought that I would try my luck here. I have been trying to build the LXDE spin iso using the default Fedora 25 kickstarts available /usr/share/spin-kickstarts/fedora-live-lxde.ks and the dependent kickstart files. problem with custom partitioning installing 32-bit F25

I'm trying to install 32-bit F25 Gold (RC1.3) from the netinst, with custom partitioning. The only reason I need custom partitioning is to avoid creating a separate /home partition. Unfortunately, due to https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1375732 , it won't let me expand the / partition to use the space freed after deleting /home. (This bug wasn't fixed since 32-bit is no longer a blocker.) Is there any fairly easy way to achieve this without custom partitioning in the installer? Or is it likely that an updates.img would be made available after release day to work around this type of issue?
