where is the nasty cache?

We shuffled some systems around at work. An NFS server now has a new IP address. On my fedora 30 desktop I see: nslookup <server> shows the new IP address host <server> shows the new IP address ping <server> still pings the OLD address!!! mount /mountpoint apparent still uses the old IP because it times out. I'm not running nscd. I'm not running systemd-resolv. I'm not running dnsmasq or bind as a local cache. I don't have entries in /etc/hosts for the old IP. So where is this "helpful" cache that has the old IP stashed?

The net.core.netdev_rss_key and insecure settings.

What is net.core.netdev_rss_key? Can be this default setting an insecure issue? You can see it with this command: [root@desk mythcat]# sysctl -a --pattern 'net.core.netdev_rss_key'

Hi! Does anyone have any idea why there is such situation: [root@localhost ~]# systemd-analyze blame | grep tables 1.463s ip6tables.service 217ms iptables.service This is on a new nvme laptop but the same behavior is present on any other systems that i have (but annoying on the laptop) The overall situation is : [root@localhost ~]# systemd-analyze Startup finished in 2.070s (firmware) + 5.323s (loader) + 837ms (kernel) + 1.218s (initrd) + 2.067s (userspace) = 11.517s graphical.target reached after 1.160s in userspace Does anyone have an idea how can i speed up this? (firewalld usage is not good for me) Thank you!! Adrian

CUPS forcing single-sided printing

Hi, I have a LAN using CentOS and Fedora installations (currently its CentOS 7 on the server). At times it insists on doing double-sided printing, and will not let me choose single-side. Erratically the option is either unavailable (the drop down menu is not clickable, and says "not available"); or when the option is responding, my selection is ignored; and some days it works properly. The printer is a HP LaserJet P3015. I get this erratic behaviour on any of the PCs, and it used to do this, too, when the server was previously a Fedora install. Anybody have any clues? -- uname -rsvp Linux 3.10.0-1062.1.2.el7.x86_64 #1 SMP Mon Sep 30 14:19:46 UTC 2019 x86_64 Boilerplate: All unexpected mail to my mailbox is automatically deleted. Boot order use the oldest kernel

Hi, With one of my computers I have problem to set permanent default start order of the kernel. I can change it with "sudo grub2-set-default 0" but when I update the kernel I get oldest kernel as default boot order. How do I make the start order so the latest kernel is default? -- Regards Jon Ingason

SSH after upgrade

Upgraded server from Fedora 30 to 31 (updated to present), and ssh into that server works fine as normal user, but no longer lets me login as root. I can login as root from the server machine itself, and can login via su - but just cant' from ssh. Any ideas what changed or got replaced so revert it back? Thanks, Mike

Can't boot from the harddive

Hi, I accidentally turn off my computer with the power button. That resulted in corruption of "BIOS start". Like wise... There seems to be missing a /dev/one. Could it be obtained by exoring /dev/zero? graphical environment menus doesn't work

For transport reasons I had disassembled and re-installed on a different case, my computer (with windows 10 and fedora 30). The technician has successfully performed the reassembly operation, however, on booting Windows 10 the computer works correctly, while booting via fedora the procedure allows you to log in (with a previously registered user name) but after that, the graphical menu environment does not appear . I can use still fedora in text mode (by Cntrl Alt F 1 -F3), however I cannot activate the graphical menu environment. How to activate the disappeared graphic environment? some advice ? Angelo
