I am getting:

The rpm-ostree install is working for me.. Maybe a intermittent issue?
That being said, we'd like to advise against layering packages unless absolutely necessary. The layered packages can make automated updates less reliable.

Right - so the approach is put the only the essential apps into the base image?
Thanks,
Phil.

Yes. The idea is that the Fedora CoreOS group/community manage the OS and users manage the apps. Installing packages via `rpm-ostree install` makes the automatic updates less reliable. Anything you can do reasonably in a container, you should do it in a container and hopefully we don't ship any updates that break container runtimes :)

OK - can you point me to an example fcc file for adding an app to the base config? (I have the fcct working OK). I have an fcc file for configuring the network setup but I can't extrapolate from that to an app - say "mc".
Thanks,
Phil.

How about trying to execute the Lab a few of us put together for Devconf.cz.

It should help with understanding how to get a server application up and running.

Ah! - excellent! - I was about to install from scratch anyway to see if that improved anything . . I will report back!
Many thanks!

Very nice lab! The only problem so far (I got all the way to the advanced section) was with the ssh login - I'm sure I have added my own pub key OK but I still get a denied login . .
Thanks!

Hmm. Maybe make sure you are putting it all on a single line? Since the configs used in the lab include the "auto login on serial console" can you use the shell on the serial console to debug if the authorized_keys file for the `core` user has your pubkey in it?
