Hi,
Today I am getting the following error when running "yum update" on FC4 x86_64:
filelists.xml.gz 100% |=========================| 3.0 MB 00:23 http://mirror.linux.duke.edu/pub/fedora/linux/core/updates/4/x86_64/repodata...: [Errno -1] Metadata file does not match checksum Trying other mirror.
- this is for *all* mirrors yum tries. Any ideas? Is the file corrupted and propagated to all the mirrors? Is it a screwed-up configuration on my end (I have not tinkered with it, actually)?
Googling for the error message did not yield anything. What can I check?

Eh, it seems to have gone away after "yum clean all" - sorry for the trouble.

next time you see this happen, before you reach for a "clean all" solution, see if "clean metadata" is enough to solve the problem. Depending on when the metadata cookie was generated in your cache and your cache expiration settings, you can get into a situation where all the mirrors have updated their metadata and your local metadata cache is out of sync with all available mirrors. This is difficult to reproduce and greatly depends on the timing of mirror syncing versus your metadata cache creation and expiration.

Hmm, didn't know about this one. It appears in the synopsis in the man page, but not in the CLEAN section. Live and learn...
Thanks,

Sometimes this is because of a problematic (transparent?) proxy server. If it persists, it may be that, for which you can try setting "http_caching" in /etc/yum.conf.
