Here are just few features that I believe would be great for Fedora 10 to have:
1. RFE: Add desktop folder with examples of what "fedora thing" can do :) https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=315171
Lisa gets Fedora 10 Live CD from her Joe (her geeky boyfriend) and puts it in her laptop. After she gets presented with a different looking desktop that she is usually presented she doesn't know what this "fedora thing" actually does and can do. Joe gives her a CD version of Ubuntu, after loosing temper with trying to explain what fedora can actually do. Lisa puts Ubuntu CD in and after few minutes she clicks through a few examples on her new desktop and sees that this "Ubuntu thing" does more that that "Fedora thing" like plays music & videos, shows nice spreadsheets and other documents.
It would be great for Fedora to add directory on desktop with some nice examples what Fedora and OSS can do. There are great videos on redhat magazine page and I'm sure there are other great resources - new users need to be exposed to them in this way. Also there is a initiative for contriburots to make screencasts and this feature would be a great match with it if they merged together.
2. RFE: Desktop shortcut for joining Fedora IRC (aka "Get Live Help"): https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=430217 and https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=179703
Fedora is about freedom+communication, right? Why not make this statement more that just a nice slogan. If you installed sabayon linux you could experienced for yourself what this really means. I as a new user to gentoo (sabayon is based on gentoo) was really blown away with this feature. It is really, really simple to implement and gives a real meaning to a communication friendly linux distro. In sabayon link to their IRC chat has a simple name "Get Live Help" and it work fabulous! I didn't have any Portage experience so I poped in IRC chat room and was on my way after I got quick help. Whis kind of help was precious to me and would love to see it in fedora as one of it's main features and not just as a slogan. screenshot: http://www.flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=382063978&size=l
3. Add abillity to define ntfs mount points in anaconda https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=430084
We can define ext3, reiserfs, xfs and vfat partition mount points in anaconda during the install but just ntfs.
Cheers, Valent.

How about a welcome screen that pops up everytime you boot up, with an obnoxious shortcut to it in the top of our 'go' menu. No matter how many times you 'disable this the next time it boots', it still nags you to install aMSN.
</sarcasm>
I think a folder might not be the best interface, but even so, putting in a default bookmarks like we do already is not really effective either. Maybe this is something the myFedora guys might want to look at at some point.

I understand your sarcasm and appreciate it, I know that dolder may not be the best interface but that is just one idea. I must admit that I found folder that Ubuntu had (not sure if it still has it because I don't use it any more) with some OpenOffice calc and Writer example files is great for demoing what can be done with FLOSS software and all from a live CD.
So if you and others have other ideas jus keem them flowing...
ps. what do you think about other two points?
Cheers, Valent.

This isn't a particularly new idea.. in fact I was active in exactly this sort of channel back when Ximian produced a gnome 2 desktop that lived on top of rhl 7.x as an add-on. What I have to say next is grounded on lessons learned from multiple years of personal experience with helping in irc help channels.
I will support adding a live help button or equivalent if and only if there is an effort to identify and organize expert 'helpers' who can agree to a code of conduct and to lead by example in interactions with new users and less experienced helpers. Additionally this group would need to make an effort to organize how they will spread themselves out to cover as much in-channel time as the group is able to cover. Having all available expert helpers volunteer to be in channel from 4 to 6 pm EST, isn't going to create a pervasive culture of right action. If we are going to put the live help in users faces with the expectation to use it, then I expect a group of people in our contributor base to stand up and be accountable for how well such a channel runs and to make sure users are getting the help they need. This group would also need to make an effort to service not just the main English channel but also other language specific channels as best they are able. Greg's translator service idea could help with that.

What’s wrong with #fedora on Freenode?

It's had free reign for too long. Getting everyone in there to adhere to some sort of code of conduct is an upward battle at best.

Did I say which channel to use? No. I said I want to see a group of people stand up and be accountable and to adhere to a code of conduct. If those people want to use #fedora...fine. If they want a fresh start with a new channel.. fine. But regardless of what channel is used, I want people to affirm a code of conduct and stand up to be accountable as expert helpers and to organize what helping actually mean so that over time we get better at it. And whatever plan that group comes up with, is sure as hell better be something more elaborate than a bot that says "RTFM" in response to every question.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you already suggested these two ideas like a year ago, didn't you? And AFAIR the result of the discussion more or less was "Do it, if you want to." Please present us some content for the examples folder and tell us how the IRC link works. How do the Sabayon guys handle different IRC clients for example? How to get a registered nick? I think I already asked you this a year ago but I did not get a reply. :(

Yes, but Fedora also is about participation and working together. "Working together" still means WORKING in first place and not only filing RFEs. So please go for it!

Yes I did. First time was when I was too "green" to do anything and in the last few months I have been doing a general renovation of my apartment so I was totally off the Metaverse.

Did you read the discussion? There much more issues because of space on mediums and there were also other issues. You are grossly over simplifying it.

I have no content of my own but there a lots and lots of content that I see from Red Hat Magazine: http://www.redhatmagazine.com/category/multimedia/
And also I see no reason not to ask ArtWork team to choose or let Fedora users vote for best works and so that they get included but not as final artwork product only but also as native Gimp and Inkscape files.
I can point you to Ubuntu OpenOffice files which give you a really nice overview what you can do with OpenOffice, but we can ask Fedora and OpenOffice users to provide some files that would be maybe even better than ones I saw in Ubuntu.

I haven't filing RFEs, I was totally of the grid for the past few months. Now that I have moved into new apartment I have time to respond to your request and to continue with other projects I have paused.
Cheers, Valent.
