After the most recent rawhide updates, found that gdm wouldn't start in runlevel 5, x wouldn't start in runlevel 3. So, reverted gdm, still no joy, so reverted the ati driver and the x11-xorg-drivers (removing the mach64 and r128 drivers ), and now gdm started ok, but x would mysteriously die taking gnome with it. Reverted server-Xorg and -common and now things appear to be normal. This is an ASUS P5K-E mobo with radeon 2600 graphics.
There seems to be some sort of synergistic problem that I can't really pinpoint.
Any suggestions or anyone else seeing anything strange? Is it possible recent kernel changes are playing a part?
Thanks

Is this an i386 or x86_64 install?
Does dmesg show anything fishy?
I have two rawhide-systems - the i386 one works fine with all kernels and the x86_64 one gets me lots of oom-errors (which - among other issues result in no gdm start) if I boot with a kernel newer than 244.

i386 system.
Nothing unusal in dmesg, log messages show kernel reporting segfaults in software update viewer (not related to graphics probs).
I am going to readd reverted packages, one at a time (when I get some time) to see if I can recreate the problem(s).

Well, the later clearly implies the former.
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=460571 ???
The original was "x86_64" but comment #3 says that the same happens for 32-bit kernels too. In particular do you see "DRM Command submission failure -22" in logs for X?

No errors like that in X logs.
Jut now reinstalled rawhide gdm and failures again occurred. Reverted to gdm-2.23.2-1.fc10.i386 and now the only problem is the sporadic hang with udev.
Earlier, reverting gdm did not work, had to revert the ati driver. But again, current kernel is not the one the errors originally showed up under.
