What makes a production kernel?

I know the rawhide kernels are more about testing and saying, "hey, would this day-old feature be cool to eventually put into production", but what's the philosophy on the FC2 kernel? Has it already been decided that it will be an older version? I haven't tried all of the new kernels, but neither the nvidia nor the savage X drivers have worked on any kernel I have tried since 2.6.3-1.118. I know a lot of people have said, "Blame NVIDIA. They don't come out with a new driver every week to match the way our kernels are changing", but I don't think this is a reasonable stance. The nvidia module is widely used, and I think to say that FC2 doesn't support it may be a serious issue for some people. I know most people don't care about the savage driver, but I wonder if a new one will ever be released. I don't think its a good idea at this time to include a default kernel that isn't backward compatible in this respect to the older ones. -Eric Hattemer

Notable changes in this release include: - SELinux is now disabled by default. If you'd like to install with SELinux support, pass 'selinux' to the installer. Bug reports about the behavior and support of SELinux are certainly still welcome; we're still working on it. - The 'CD1 won't boot' issue appears to be resolved. Any reports of continued failure are certainly appreciated. - Please check the included translations for correctness and sanity. Anaconda now installs in 31 languages. Compile kernel.rpm

Hello All I download kernel-2.6.5-1.327.src.rpm and install it with rpm -ivh kernel-2.6.5-1.327.src.rpm then I compile it with rpmbuild -ba /usr/src/redhat/SPEC/kernel-2.6.spec and the kernel-2.6.5-1.327.rpm is not created. Then I install the kernel-source-2.6.5-1.327.rpm created by step below and execute commands: make xconfig (to create .config file) make rpm (to create kernel.spec file) Please, help me how to correct way for compile the fedora kernel I also download the linux-2.6.4.tar.bz2 and try same process Thanks TEOTONIO

xorg-x11 VIA EPIA-CL10000 and Alan's via drivers

Hi, I had problems with xorg/FC2test3 on my EPIA with the vesa drivers (as others on this list), but it seems solved with Alans VIA drivers I found at: ftp://people.redhat.com/alan/XFree86/VIA/Fedora/ These are binary, but work with FC2test3 on my EPIA. I also tried to rebuild xorg-x11 from the latest SRPM: xorg-x11-6.7.0-0.5.src.rpm I changed in the .spec file: %define with_via_driver 1 instead of 0. However, it fails to build now (probably the reason why it was left out of it). Is this worth a bugzilla? Any ideas? Will it be enabled by FC2 final? The error message is below. Issues when I use Linux with KVM switch.

I have two machines sharing one monitor, one keyboard and one mouse by KVM switch. One machine is Windows XP and another one is Linux Fedora. Linux Fedora 1.0 If I turn on the machine with Linux, after I login to a user, see the KDE environment showing up, I use my KVM to switch to my Windows XP machine, then switch back to Linux machine. At this moment, the mouse is out of control. I have to use "CTRL + ALT + F1" to switch to different logone screen (command line) then use "CTRL + ALT + F7" switch back the the KDE environment then I can use the mouse without problem. The same issue is also availabe on Redhat 9. Linux Fedora 1.91 On 1.91, the problem is even worse. Even I use "CTRL + ALT + F1" then use "CTRL + ALT + F7" back to KDE screen, the mouse is still out of control. I hope this issue can be fixed soon. How can I file a bug for this? I hope Linux GUI environment can work with KVM switch without problem, as we use KVM on Windows 2000 or XP machines.
