After asking on the bugzilla it seems that ales would like people who want this change to cc themselves on the bug report. If the cc reaches 40 he'll reconsider. Kinda a strange way of deciding but whatever works for the maintainer I guess.
And what would be the right way to decide? And please stay assured that this is not a trolling, I would really like to see some agreement in Fedora on how to decide these kind of things.
in doubt in case of rewrites support the existing features and start the clean codebase with them in mind
And that is official Fedora (I mean respected by the community) rule or yours?
mine - there is no "official" one and hardly will ever be
Well, but there will have to be one, at least when the time comes and dnf will proposed as default. At that point someone (fesco?) will have to evaluate it and vote and either accept it or refuse it. And as I see it, the decision will have to be based on some criteria, so I'm actually asking for this criteria to be revealed now so we can end this thread in piece and get back to work...
that is what a user normally expects: optimize things, add new features but do not demand him to change his workflow with no for the user obvious improvement
Well, I can use dnf in it's current shape quite fine and it works faster than yum which I take as an improvement, so for me it's ok. So what now?
