At some point it appears that appdata files moved from /usr/share/appdata to /usr/share/metainfo. Does the libappstream-glib library or whatever cares about appdatafiles in RHEL7 (libappstream-glib-0.7.8-2.el7) work with /usr/share/metainfo, or does it have to be /usr/share/appdata? I'm leaning towards assuming metainfo will work since both evince and control-center in RHEL7.6 install files there. If this does prove true, perhaps we can have epel-rpm-macros changed?
Thanks.
I also find this interesting:
# rpm -qf /usr/share/appdata /usr/share/metainfo file /usr/share/appdata is not owned by any package file /usr/share/metainfo is not owned by any package

RHEL 7 has supported AppStream data files being in /usr/share/metainfo since RHEL 7.4.
