Why are these packages going into EPEL? These seem to be clear violations of the EPEL "Guidelines and Policies":
"EPEL packages should only enhance and never disturb the Enterprise Linux distributions they were build for. Thus packages from EPEL should never replace packages from the target base distribution - including those on the base distribution as well as layered products;"

IIRC RHEL 5 does not include gtk 1 as opposed to 2. What violation do you see?

I recently became the maintainer of glib/gtk+ and there were already EL-5 branches there. As I was doing a bugfix update for imlib I thought I'd freshen up glib/gtk+ whilst I was at it too.
Those branches need to be marked dead. I'll do that.
Paul.

Just for the record: since it was mentioned in the bz (see below) but ignored: since RHEL 5.3, part of the openjdk stack (i.e. all but the browser plugin) has been included in the main distro. However this version has a lower EVR than what was already included in EPEL ( not to mention that the existing package maintainer was completely ignored). Bottom line, anyone using RHEL 5.3 (or Centos 5.3) and EPEL will be offered the package from EPEL as an update.
