Script to merge persistent overlay into new image

There's an incredibly useful-looking script on here http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/LiveOS_image that merges a LiveOS snapshot overlay into a new root filesystem, and replaces it on the USB stick, so that you get all your overlay space back. I've been looking for such a script for a while. Is it included in livecd-tools? Or any other Fedora package? (I'm reluctant to run the script on the web page, because I'm not sure how well tested it is.) The script appears to claim that it can cope with being run from the USB stick itself, while it's booted up, which sounds too good to be true (or, at least, too good to be safe). James

shutting down f19-livecd corrups raid1

My raid1 gets corrupted _everytime_ I shut down a f19-kde-livecd-image. I used kernel.f19 and mdadm.f19 in a f17-livecd and everything works fine. So these two are not the problem. What should I look at? maybe dracut??? PS: Testing and experimenting isn't a good idea here because it takes almost 3 hours for the raid to rebuild... -- --joshua

overlay exhaustion solution ???

I just had interesting (or incredibly stupid) idea concerning the critical limitation of the live overlays where the host crashes with bus errors when the temporary space for the COW is exhausted. Is it possible to use trim/discard support to mitigate some of the unidirectional growth for when files are deleted and/or overwritten? Conceptually it seems like it is a good fit, but I've not investigated the practicality. Just curious if this has been explored or if there are easily known reasons why this wouldn't work. -- John Florian

Weird Errors after livecd rebuild

Hi I have been trying to rebuild one of the latest Fedora Live CD's Fedora20 Lxde doing my work on a Fedora 19 system I follow the procedures online doing, Iso mount, squashfs mount, mirror Iso and Squashfs directories, mount the raw image, do my changes, rebuild the squashfs and iso. The problem is that after this process, and even without doing any change on the raw image, ( i even issue a diff between the original on the iso file and mine with no changes ) the new LiveCD boots but does not let me log in. On the desktop login ask's a password and returns to login screen again and on the console promt does not ask for password but returns to login After doing the squashfs a diff reports changes between the squashfs on original iso and the new one, but it should not no? Is there a squashfs option I am missing? rebuild the squashfs on a different version would affect? ( I'm on 19 ) Any ideias on what is happening? Thanks Jose
