Hey folks,
At the last meeting I took the action item to come up with a persona template and maybe even take a stab at some rough cut personas.
I put together this based on nirik's persona suggestions from the meeting. We may have other personas we need. Most of the info for each persona is complete filler and stuff I made up. I look to you folks as the experts who will be able to help fill in the blanks or point me to folks who'd be good to talk to / representative for each persona to figure out the various bits.
Anyway, take a look, tell me what you think? Do these make you think of another case we may have forgotten? Think about environments, experience level, organization type, type of deployment, that sort of thing.

It's great, I would like to know how I can contribute to this.

If you have time today to pop into #fedora-server, I'd love to pick your brain based on your sysadmin experience to help flesh some of these out better! I'm mizmo.

Below is my summary of the conversation; let me know if I missed anything or misrepresented anything!
~m
Basic Attributes: ----------------- * Works for a large company * Works on a team of 6 sys admins, 2 in Peru, 4 in Chicago * Manages approximately 1000 servers * Half and half physical/virtual (KVM and Xen Cloud) * All Java * Each environment is cloned, the differences are in the versions of mod_jk and/or JDK * Load-balancing configuration * Changes managed via scripts (shell vs python or perl depends on the complexity) - company policy requires these are written and maintained in-house only
Goals: ------ * Automate all the things! * Better understand the status of all systems, including installed software and utilization of system resources. * When modifying a system, define a recipe that describes the changes to make, then later do a diff on the system to see the correct functionality
Motivation: ----------- * I like the idea of being able to customize on the needs one can have
Frustrations: ------------- * Production pushes where the JDK crashes. * Production pushes where the VM has to be taken down and have its capacity raised before the new version of the application can be started.
Here is a persona I put together for another server use case - see if it might be useful.
I'm interested in any feedback or suggestions you might have, including the level of detail and how appropriate this is for Fedora.
Best regards, Russ

This is really good! It's a lot of detail - probably a lot more than we need - but if you want I can try to abridge it into using the wiki template. what do you think?

Go for it! I'm interested in differing viewpoints on the amount of detail that is useful. (This isn't the longest persona I've put together...)
