Hi folks,
I'd like to request more folks to please help at askfedora[1].
Since it's a web forum, more people are comfortable asking their
questions here. It makes sense for more community folks to keep a watch
on what goes on here, to enable us to know what issues users face, and
how we can assist them for a better fedora experience. (Interacting with
users is one of our duties as a fedora ambassador. We are the face of
fedora, aren't we? :) )
More community folks keeping a watch also ensures _quality_control_: are
they being given correct answers? For instance, quite a few solutions
that are put forward involve installing third party repositories or
compiling from source, WHEN THE PACKAGE IS AVAILABLE IN THE
REPOSITORIES. I down vote such answers, but I really cannot keep an eye
on all questions asked and answered alone.
Please, I implore you to help at askfedora. It's a great tool to help
users. However, it is a collaborative source of information, and it is
solely our responsibility, as the fedora community, to ensure that
askfedora is used correctly and gives out the best information.

=== Report ===
I had organized a Fedora/Linux seminar at Jaipur National University
(Main campus), Jaipur, Rajasthan, India on Wednesday, August 08,2012.
All attendees were graduate students in computer science. They were
all familiar with some basic programming languages, and operating
systems, but most of them were new to Linux.
The whole two hour session was lecture based with some tutorials. In
the first half, I started with 26 reasons why we should use Linux and
open source software, and how it is a superior choice for academics.
I then demonstrated the installation of Fedora 17, and told them more
about RPM, and how to use yum and RPM to install packages on Fedora,
and introduced them to the different desktop environments.
In the second half, I showed them how to easily install a file sharing
server for home and named it as "Install file sharing server in 5 mins
with Fedora". I also provided them with Fedora 17 dvd iso for i686 and
x86_64. Some robotics students asked for Fedora 17 robotics spin. I
told them that I would try to provide the robotics spin as soon as
possible.
Finally the whole two hour session ended up with some questions from
attendees who faced some problems while using Fedora.

Hello,
We are currently in the planning phases for Fedora Ambassador Day North
America and we would love to have everyone's ideas, thoughts, voices, and
input included in the planning phase.
If you are interested in this subject and/or attending please attend the
next FAmNA meeting in #fedora-meeting on freenode IRC on Tuesday, August 7th
at 6PM PDT, 9PM EDT.
Locations:
If you have a location to propose please do so here:
https://fedorahosted.org/famna/ticket/36
Please note that "Anytown, USA because it's nice" is not an acceptable
proposal.
Please include dates. Usually a Thursday through Sunday weekend and most
likely a month before the release date of Spherical Cow (Fedora 18), an
actual physical location for sessions to be held, nearby airports and
transportation, people who will be available locally to provide hospitality
and transportation to Ambassadors that are attending from out of town,
places for them to stay and any other logistic related things important to
have your location proposal taken seriously.
Agenda:
Please suggest some constructive topics you would like to have discussed
i.e. new features in Fedora 18, use cases, specific technical sessions (for
example in 2009 they did an Asterisk session).
We would like to organize a well planned, memorable, fun, and interesting
event for everyone involved so please do reply to this email thread with any
thoughts you may have if you cannot attend the meeting on Tuesday.
Please also review the following links as a reference before making
comments:

And update the following links accordingly with your input:

Thanks,
Dan
Please join us for our weekly FAmNA meeting this Tuesday at 9:00pm
Eastern in #fedora-meeting on irc.freenode.net.
I'd like to remind everyone that it is important for us to get some work
accomplished at these meetings and staying on the topic is important
to that end. All comments are welcome from ambassadors during the
meetings but please wait until the Open Floor to add any subject matter
not included in the meeting agenda via a ticket.
Feel free to add to the agenda. The easy way to add an agenda item is
described at the bottom of this announcement. Especially if you have an
event coming up that needs some attention.
== Meeting Agenda ==
=== Announcements ===
Time for brief announcements.
=== Tickets ===
Tickets scheduled for discussion at this meeting can be found at
https://fedorahosted.org/famna/report/9
Please read through each ticket in advance so you can be prepared to
discuss them at the meeting.
=== Open Floor ===
Unscheduled topics can be raised during the open floor if time
permits. Discussion of any topic will generally be more productive if
participants know about the topics in advance and have some time to
think about them, so please add your topics to the meeting agenda in
the ticket system when possible.
If you would like to add a topic for discussion at our meetings please
open a ticket at
https://fedorahosted.org/famna/
and set its milestone to meeting.
Thanks,
John
