Hello,
While talking to one of the package maintainers, this feedback came up.

It'll help if you could share anyways you've found to keep new contributors from being scared.
Thank you.

Hello!
I would like to help packaging. Actually, I would like to package a couple of small programmes I think they would be useful in Fedora. But I'm honestly lost, I don't even know how to start. Maybe if someone helps me, I can go through this and write an article about the process, what is needed, advises, etc. If such an article is of any help.
My 2 cents. Sylvia

I could help you with it. Which programs do you wish to package?

Hi!
One programme is GDM3 setup that I forked it to my own GitHub. Original project: https://github.com/Nano77/gdm3setup%C2%A0 Fork: https://github.com/Lailah/gdm3setup
As you can see the last working version is Fedora 22. I should update it first to GTK 3.20 and then test and package it, I think. Or maybe I'm wrong?
Cheers, thank you, Sylvia

As I see, 'gdm3setup' is not packaged for Fedora yet
-> https://admin.fedoraproject.org/pkgdb/packages/gdm3setup*/
They've provided RPMs, but that's not same as being a Fedora package.
Have you created FAS and Bugzilla accounts yet?
FAS -> https://admin.fedoraproject.org/accounts/user/new Bugzilla -> https://bugzilla.redhat.com/
Let's catch-up on IRC sometime to go through the packaging exercise. Do you run Fedora on your machine? If not, you'll need to install it first.
Thank you. --- -P J P http://feedmug.com
Hello!
I know it's not packaged, that's why I want to package it, to include it to Fedora. Why did I fork it...? Well, just in case the original developer doesn't fancy his programme packaged for Fedora. They provide some RPM but none of them work. I already tried. They're simply too old (F22).
Yes, of course I have FAS and Bugzilla, I'm an Ambassador. If I need anything else or I have to follow any particular process, just let me know.
Cheers and thanks, Sylvia

See: -> https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Packaging:Guidelines?rd=Packaging/Guidelines -> https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Join_the_package_collection_maintainers?rd=Pa...
1. The F22 SRPM would have the .spec file. Use that to build the package. 2. Once done, open a package review request bug in Bugzilla. Ex. -> https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1334611
3. If you are not part of the packager group, you'll need to request for a sponsorship. -> https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/How_to_get_sponsored_into_the_packager_group?...
4. Once the package is reviewed and approved, you'll need to request package git branches to be made. -> https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/PackageDB_admin_requests
5. Once the git repositories are in place, you build and push package updates to each branch separately via bodhi.
-> https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Package_update_HOWTO
Hope it helps. --- -P J P http://feedmug.com

Please check with the upstream developers first. --- -P J P http://feedmug.com
Yes, I will do so. Should I package this first or ask for sponsorship in the packagers group first?
Cheers and thank you very much! Sylvia

1. First, write to upstream developers about packaging gdm3setup for Fedora. That way it's easier to keep-up with the upstream project. 2. Build the package and open a package-review request in Bugzilla. 3. In the review-request bug, you request for sponsorship to packagers' group.

Hello!
Thanks for your answer and advises. Yes, I wrote to the upstream maintainer but he didn't reply yet. Hope he does it soon.
Cheers, Sylvia

Yep, cool. --- -P J P http://feedmug.com
Just an update on this...
I received some replies. The original developer isn't maintaining this package anymore but he's fine with someone else forking it and developing it. I already forked it, so now it's starting to work on it. If anyone else is interested in help, test, etc., their help is very welcome.
Cheers, Sylvia
