Dear *,
As I have already written it to Damien Durand, I have reserved a booth - actually a table of 2m width - for Fedora at the Fosdem as well as a dev room - conference room - that we should share alternatively with the CentOS People.
This is the both confirmation from the Fosdem Team :
This is the official confirmation that your request for a Developer Room at FOSDEM 2007 has been accepted and booked.
The room at your disposal will be H.2214 (capacity is 100 seats),
- Saturday: 14:00 -> 19:00
- Sunday: 09:00 -> 18:00
This is the official confirmation that your request for a stand/booth at FOSDEM 2007 has been accepted and booked. Number of stands for your project: 1 All stands are located in the hallway of the main building (H). The stand(s) will be at your disposal,
- Saturday: 14:00 -> 18:00
- Sunday: 09:00 -> 18:00
I have already contacted RedHat Benelux in order to let them know that we will be their. They will be their too at the same booth as well as Jboss Benelux. In addition, someone from Jboss should do a presentation.
So everybody Fedora people are welcome to be present at this event and it could be intersting to do an European FUDCON in the same time cause like last year a lot of Red Hat and Fedora Developpers should be there. Tell me what you think about it.
Nonetheless, a lot of things have still to be done. For instance : I need that people who have planned to be there register. I need to have confirmation that some people should do presentation in the developpment room. I need tee-shirt, hoarding, banniers, dvds, and other stuffs like last year. I really need help in order to make this event succesfull. etc..
BTW MrTom, will you be there as well like last year ?
Thanks a lot in advance. Keep you in touch as soon as I have got other news. ----------------------------------------------------- Fedora-ambassadors-list mailing list Fedora-ambassadors-list@redhat.com Olpc mailing list olpc-open@laptop.org

At the FAD we decided to organise FUDCon at FOSDEM. That's what my private mails to Frederic are.
I think It's a bad idea to request dvds now, since we don't have fosdem's green light for our FUDCon. Since frederic is on wiki/FedoraEvents for FOSDEM, he will be the one in contact to FOSDEM organizers. Right now we are waiting for the green light, Frederic's response. Once we have it; we can request the desired amount on a sole order. I'm not for 20 persons ordering for the same event.

btw.
please all have a look at the meeting minutes of the FAD at http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FAD/PassedFADs
there you can find: - Fosdem will be if we can arrange it with the help of Frederic the biggest FEDORA Event in EMEA (with participation of the Fedora Board and also Max Spevack) - The participant of the FAD will all attend the FOSDEM - We like to place a FUDCon there ...
Lot of things must be done within the next days and weeks. Frederic, you as the local Ambassador will get the lead to bring all to the Fosdem-organisation. We also figured out, that Chitlesh should be the "liasion officer" within these big european Fedora event in 2007 ...
Everybody should help to have the FOSDEM as the success it has to be!
Just my five cents :-)

Dear *,
I have received a reply from the FOSDEM TEAM about FUDCON @ FOSDEM. I have forwarded it to Chitlesh Goorah.
Well, they are not against to the idea but they think it's a pity because all major FOSS events and projects avoid doing something around the time FOSDEM takes place, because they know it's a great event many people like to attend.
For my part, I think that if FUDCON is a mean to Fedora developers, ambassadors, etc .. to meet each others and to do presentations and if FUDCON can be hold in the same time than other FOSS events, presentations, etc.. then I am convinced that Fudcon can take place during FOSDEM.
Anyway, I am waiting for the FAD decision.

we, who attend the FAD (where the most Ambassador were at one place) decided how we should have the best effort for Fedora; means which Event in EMEA has the best value for us, the community and the effort for all to hold the "most important" and biggest FEDORA event in 2007.
We decided that it should be at FOSDEM
because of: - it's a international Event - it's the biggest Open Source event in EMEA because Linuxtag (in Germanyseems dying) - we have an Ambassador there at the place - it's an "central event" ("middle" of Europe) - it's a well known event in the OSS Scene - it's in a RElease cycle and not between a release change between FC6 and FC7 - and we found many other topics why to place "our" event there
But if we cann't get any support from the local Ambassador for dealing with FOSDEM and also not from the FOSDEM organisation we should immediatly change our decissions ...
Just my five cents

A Fudcon subconference will attract additional visitors to the main event. People will attend a couple of FUDCON talks and _also_ talks of the main conference. That synergy is the main point of a FUDCON. the Fudcon should happen within FOSDEM not someplace else.
Fudcon is not internal. Anyone can come.

Hello,
Since the FOSDEM organizers aren't against with our FUDCon idea, I think we should go through.
Frederic could you confirm our FUDCon event to the FOSDEM organizers ?
Fedora contributor and user bases are growing day by day in Europe like any other region of the world. The Fedora Project being a true contributor to the FOSS eco-system has attracted lots of european contributors and users among those several play key roles in the Fedora Project.
Having a FUDCon at FOSDEM, FOSDEM 2007 will be a crucial meeting place for European Fedora contributors and other high-graded Fedora members around the world. Fudcon is not internal withing the Fedora Project. Anyone can come. A Fudcon subconference will attract additional visitors to the main event. People will attend a couple of FUDCON talks and _also_ talks of the main conference. That synergy is the main point of a FUDCON.
So here is where we are, we will be sharing - a devroom with Centos guys ( a request for another room hasn't been replied yet ) - own stand (1x 2m width table in the hall) with Red Hat/JBoss
Next step, we should know the man/woman of contact: - from Centos : (for the devroom sharing) Then we can schedule our FUDCon timetable accordingly. - from RedHat/JBoss : (booth sharing) We should know whether Fedora and RedHat will have both enough (equal) space and whether Fedora can have other resources from them.
Frederic or anyone, do you have a name for those persons ?

We should know whether Fedora and RedHat will have both enough (equal) space and whether Fedora can have other resources from them.
FYI, the booth have been reserved to Fedora and not Red Hat. Cause I am not Red Hat, not yet anyway. I register only for Fedora. However as Red Hat was not present last year and as SUSE and Debian were there, and as I did not know if they wanted to come I suggested them that it could be intersting for them to be there. They agreed but at that all booths were taken so I found intersting to invite them to share our booth as well as JBoss.
So we have to divide our both by two, so Fedora both is 1 meter. I know it is not so much but I could not guess a such interest. You see what I mean. Last year, we were only two.

Yes, I have got names but I have to talk about it with them before to communicate you their name. I am sure you can understand.

I see that we have a devroom that we share with CentOS -- will we able to

One thing again, concerning Tee-Shirts, DVDs and other gadgets, could it possible to bring 100 of each one more cause during the rest of the year I distribute it to people during event other than FOSDEM. Thanks a lot. I am going to sumbit it to the Fedora Ambassadors Get Stuff.

Frederic or anyone, do you have a name for those persons ?
Yes, I have got names but I have to talk about it with them before to communicate you their name. I am sure you can understand.
Is there any sort of schedule in which we will have a room to give some
talks about Fedora? I am working on it. I am going to communicate planning suggestions when Fedora could make presentation during the event.
I see that we have a devroom that we share with CentOS -- will we able
to advertise and give some some talks about Fedora in that room? Yes of course, Fedora can give some talks about Fedora in that room. We have reserved it for that.

Hi,
What do we/Centos want to do in the time? If it is presentations, intended for visitors of FOSDEM why don't we combine our forces and have _one_ subconference. CentOS is part of the Fedora Family after all. For internal meetings we could organize some private hours as well. Most of the internal stuff we can also discuss over a beer :)
Cheers Florian

Hello there, This is a "who will speak" call for FOSDEM2007:
For those who are willing to talk: please fill the following items on the wiki: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FedoraEvents/FOSDEM2007
- the name(s) of the speaker(s) - a few words about the speaker(s), can even be a full bio (*) - a photo of the speaker - one or more URLs about the topic
This will help us schedule the devroom with centos.
Chitlesh
Some other updates from FOSDEM:
* There will be a social FOSDEM party, The "beer event", however the date/place will be communicated soon.
* Assurance for materials:
The official mail hasn't yet sent, but it's the same as last year: for every device you bring along and that you want to be covered by their insurance, you must send us the following data: - - vendor/model - - the type of device (notebook, switch, ...) - - serial number or other unique identifier that is visible on the device - - estimation of its current value, in EUR
Deadline is still to be determined, but It would be 2 weeks before the event.

Some updates :)
== Schedule deadline ==
The deadline for sending FOSDEM's our devroom schedule is *Sat 3rd February* That gives them a week to hack all the data into thei's CMS and possibly make some adjustments afterwards.
Please understand that FOSDEM has to encode all the data and that they'd like to have all the information available on the website for visitors 2-3 weeks before the event.
ChitleshGoorah will send the schedule on Fri 1st February by email, as plain text.
For each talk/activity in our devroom, FOSDEM need the following information: * TALK: * at what time the talk starts and when it ends (or the duration) * the title of the talk/activity * an abstract (1-2 lines that shortly explain the topic) * a somewhat longer description (as long as you wish) * optional: some HTTP links (related links, project website, blog, ...) * SPEAKER(S) (obviously, for each speaker): * the full name of the speaker(s) * if possible and if the speakers don't mind, also send us their email address (it will _not_ be disclosed and only _possibly_ used by us, e.g. to ask for the slides or such) * an abstract for the speaker (e.g. "Homer Simpson is the lead developer on the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant project and contributes to a few other FOSS projects such as Futurama and Southpark") * a somewhat longer bio of the speaker * optional: a photo or a link to a photo * optional: some HTTP links (website, blog, ...)
Examples for abstract/description of talks: * http://fosdem.org/2007/schedule/events/21 * http://fosdem.org/2007/schedule/events/27 * http://fosdem.org/2007/schedule/events/23
Examples for abstract/bio/links of speakers: * http://fosdem.org/2007/schedule/speakers/jim+gettys * http://fosdem.org/2007/schedule/speakers/federico+mena+quintero * http://fosdem.org/2007/schedule/speakers/oyvind+kolas
Thanks for your cooperation ;)
== Hardware Insurance ==
As past years, Fosdem will provide a hardware insurance (which is free of cost for us) for all the hardware you will bring along.
That insurance for Fedora Speakers and Fedora Personnals at the Booth - - is free of charge - - is intended in our devroom (but not for the 4000+ visitors ;))
For every device you bring along and that you want to be covered by their insurance, you must send us the following data: * vendor/model * the name and email address of the owner * the type of device (notebook, network switch, PDA, ...) * the vendor and name of the device (e.g. Dell Latitude D800) * serial number or other unique identifier that is visible on the device * estimation of its current value, in EUR
Note that FOSDEM's insurance will only cover the hardware for which they've received the information as above *before Mon 19 Feb*. Please hand over these data to ChitleshGoorah as soon as possible.
You are welcome to add your data/information to the wiki http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FedoraEvents/FOSDEM2007
Happy New Year, Chitlesh
Dear *,
First of all, I want to wish you an Happy New Year for 2007. Let this one be rich in successes in your private and professional life.
Concerning the event, I have sent invitations to Red Hat developpers I met last year and I suggested them to register their names if they plan on visiting FOSDEM on the corresponding wiki page. In addition, I let them know that we were looking for speakers.
I am also going to do my best in order to have someone from OLPC.
See you soon. Fred

please have a look at the wiki http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FedoraEvents/FOSDEM2007 where you can find the attendees of the FOSDEM 2007 ... Dear Gerold,
I would recommend the "NOVOTEL" in Brussels. Not expensive and pretty basic. Another pro is that it's in the very center of Brussels. However, I surfed to the page that Bart Couvreur mentioned: http://www.fosdem.org/2007/practical/accomodation . There is a hotel: "CHAB: Centre Van Gogh" which seems to have a direct tramway connection to the FOSDEM area. I checked also their website and it is a + that you can individually book online for one or more attendees. In that point of view, I think last mentioned hotel is a good choice. Feel free to surf to their website: http://www.chab.be/ . If you have other remarks or questions, don't hesitate to contact me.

Interestant proposal, i think we have to consider it.
Francesco Ugolini
p.s. i think we have to reserve an hotel before February.
- -- http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FrancescoUgolini
Dear all,
FYI,
Hi folks,
We can have a major price discount at the Novotel Tour Noire, which is an excellent hotel just 5-10min away (afoot) from the Grand Place and is also where staff and speakers will stay: http://www.accorhotels.com/accorhotels/fichehotel/gb/nov/2122/fiche_hotel.sh...https://mail.axen.info/exchweb/bin/redir.asp?URL=http://www.accorhotels.com/accorhotels/fichehotel/gb/nov/2122/fiche_hotel.shtml
The normal rate is at 210 EUR + 15 EUR for breakfast (same price for single and double room).
With our deal, you can have a single or double room at *90 EUR*, normally even including breakfast (still have to sort out that point, waiting for your input -- read below ;)).
The only "issue" is that they would like to know approximatively how many people would use the offer.
We would send you a special FOSDEM PDF you'd have to fill out and send to them by fax to make the reservations (it won't work by phone, email or website, you'll really have to use our PDF by fax). Of course, you'll pay yourself, but at our preferential rate ;)
Could you please send to me a rough estimation of how many people from your project/devroom/stand would want to stay at the Novotel Tour Noire at the rate mentioned above ? And from when to when (Fri->Sat, Sat->Sun, Sun->Mon) ?
And please also tell me how many rooms it makes up, if people want to share double rooms -- as said, it's the same price for a double room than for a single room: 90 EUR per night.
It's not binding in any way, we really just need a rough estimation. We can't guarantee we'll be able to have the deal at this point, should work out though. Of course, I'll send you a confirmation ASAP, along with the PDF for the reservations.
It's also quite urgent, so please send me that information
*before Wednesday 24th (January, == next week)*
(I know, I know, that's _really_ short ;))
And BTW, for the people in charge of devrooms: please let me remind you that the schedule deadline is *3rd February* (that's in 2 weeks).
Hardware insurance data submission deadline is *Mon 19 Feb*.
cheers Pascal Bleser loki@fosdem.org

Great and outstanding job Frederic ....
unfortunately some people (including me) have booked as a few days told before at http://www.hotelflorislouise.com/Floris_Louise_Hotel_Home.html with the Rate EUR 70 for Single-Room (breakfast included) EUR 85 for Twin and Double Room (also incl. breakfast) ...
But once again: THANKS for your help!

FYI, Hi folks,
We can have a major price discount at the Novotel Tour Noire, which is an excellent hotel just 5-10min away (afoot) from the Grand Place and is also where staff and speakers will stay: http://www.accorhotels.com/accorhotels/fichehotel/gb/nov/2122/fiche_hotel.shtml The normal rate is at 210 EUR + 15 EUR for breakfast (same price for single and double room). Of course, you'll pay yourself, but at our preferential rate ;) Could you please send to me a rough estimation of how many people from your project/devroom/stand would want to stay at the Novotel Tour Noire at the rate mentioned above ? And from when to when (Fri->Sat, Sat->Sun, Sun->Mon) ? And please also tell me how many rooms it makes up, if people want to share double rooms -- as said, it's the same price for a double room than for a single room: 90 EUR per night. It's not binding in any way, we really just need a rough estimation. We can't guarantee we'll be able to have the deal at this point, should work out though. Of course, I'll send you a confirmation ASAP, along with the PDF for the reservations. It's also quite urgent, so please send me that information *before Wednesday 24th (January, == next week)* (I know, I know, that's _really_ short ;)) And BTW, for the people in charge of devrooms: please let me remind you that the schedule deadline is *3rd February* (that's in 2 weeks). Hardware insurance data submission deadline is *Mon 19 Feb*. cheers Pascal Bleser loki@fosdem.org
Best Regards Fred

Hi,
As I have already written it to Damien Durand, I have reserved a booth - actually a table of 2m width - for Fedora at the Fosdem as well as a dev room - conference room - that we should share alternatively with the CentOS People.
I will be there at the conference. Do you know when the dead line is for the talks?
Frederic, I can help you with the talk organization. We should start the CFP as soon as possible. I suggest English as the preferred FudCon conference language.
Let me know if you need anything from the Red Hat side. I'll will meet the EMEA marketing people next week.
Best regards Florian Brand
