I've a small proposal that consist in the creation of a Fedora Emeritus Ambassador, an experienced and active Ambassador who have the possibility to address (trough specific rights) the Ambassadors' activity, i think he will be a good guide to newbie and to everyone that need help (eg. there is a poll and i don't know the effects this will have on the project, like the Merging Issue (www.fedoraproject.org/wiki/Ambassadors/MergingIssue).
For the beta period i suggest those 6 people, that i see work hard and be the Light of the project:
Gerold Kassube Jorg Simon Chitlesh Goorah Thomas Chung Robert Whetsel ... and, at the end, Max Spevack, that is not only a perfect Fedora Leader but an excellent Ambassador (he stayed a lot of time in the booth and work a lot)
What do you think?

What are the specific rights ?
hmm, sorry for being a pain in the neck. But how far is "Fedora Emeritus Ambassador" different from the Fedora Mentors?
Instead of spending time on forking already existing fedora projects and just "+1" on every good idea, why not do something for real?
KarstenWade has a bright idea which needs to push forward by _every_ one on this fedora ambassador project. I wish _every_ ambassador will do something and help promoting this idea. On my behalf, I'll update my *huge* slides for F7 with Karsten's work. I hope one can translate it and do some presentations in their respective local community. Now, I'll want to hear what can you do.

Yes, i foresee this question, it's different because he doesn't follow newbie, he is a person distinguished for his experience and his activity, his role is to be a guide in the project, that says his opinion about the ideas and be rewarded for his work.
It's just an Emeritus role. He has no power, when i talk about rights i talk about the importance they will have on Fedora Ambassador Project. Attention: they will not be like FAmSCo, they will be the people that can help the project.
I hope i answered your question.

OK, so we now have "A Great Idea" that "Everyone" seems to agree with.
The obvious next step: working out the exact talking points. That's the hard part. :)
So how shall we do that? Someone needs to start. We need:
* A due date for content. * A due date for translation. * A starting draft of talking points, that are SHORT and POWERFUL. * Someone who is responsible for driving the whole affair.
Who is this person? Karsten, is it you? Is it someone else?
Is it me?

Here it is http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/ChitleshGoorah?action=AttachFile&do=get&am...
However don't start translating it now, I'll update it first for F7 and removed useless bits. I'll inform on the list once done.

Hello Chitlesh,
Your presentation is great ! Do you think that I can use some of your slide to create my presentation about Fedora in Slovak for linux@fest that will take place in Bratislava on 17th March ?
Chitlesh
thanks

I think this is not necessary, we should avoid any form of elitism - we all are one Team. We have learned from the french team how to guide new Ambassadors with active help.
Besides i am not good with this online discussions, i will concentrate me on the CLT event this weekend, where we have a booth - help is still welcome - there are another two wildcards for helping Personal. Cheers Joerg

You are right Simon. Francesco, what you are suggesting is clearly what Ambassadors are doing : help in recruitment.
I just advise any ambassadors to watch out every new ambassadors in their countries. And the the wiki [1] is our friend. As soon as there is one new ambassador, well, just go talk to him/her. Send him/her a mail or whatever and explain concretely how the ambassador project works and how your local fedora community works as well. And keep the links, try to organise things with him/her, convince him/her to come to events, to help the others, encourage him/her to take responsibilities (such as printing sheets, taking his car whatever), just to make him/her understand that he has his place in the family, that everybody needs his help.
This works. We are 12 active (and all active) ambassadors.
So we should all be Emeritus ones :)
Cheers,
Thomas Canniot

I talk about a different things (sorry for my bad English), i don't talk absolutely about mentoring, a Fedora Emeritus Ambassador is a Geek (experienced and active) Ambassador. I think this is only, only, only the recognize of a "de facto" status, so people that are new can better know who are the most experienced and active member of the fedora project.
I know my English is not well but what i'm trying to say since the first message is that isn't a redundant project (and at the end isn't a project), it not want to be a Mentoring Project nor FAmSCo nor Elitarian etc... It's only the recognize of the status of emeritus. We can call this Fedora Honored Ambassador, Fedora Experienced Ambassador or what you want... it's not important the name but the essence.
I want to remember that we aren't (considering all the fedora ambassador project) all such type of ambassadors, the people i suggested in my first message are the most important, in my opinion, because their opinion were/are/will be followed by all, independently from the country and independently from the ideas.
(as americans use to say) Just my 5 cents.
Francesco Ugolini
p.s. I hope you have better understood.

And here I don't agree with you. I don't think that experienced ambassador should be given more importance than the newest ones. Then, about the ideas your Emeritus could have, I don't think that it is because they are Emritus ones that their ideas are good de facto. I think that an good idea IS a good idea, wherever it comes.

The mentors project sounds like it would be great to helping a "newbie" work with the Fedora Ambassadors. The Ambassadors have two people listed, other interested people should add their name to the list. Keep things simple and avoid the fork. There are already means in place to help new people contribute to various portions of the project they are interested in.
As for the poll regarding the merger. I don't think we need a special group of Ambassadors to tell us what effects various decisions might and might not have on the project. Open discussion on the Ambassador list presents the opportunity for all to contribute - new people and those that have been doing this for awhile. The Ambassadors that have been doing this for awhile will easily be able to contribute to the open discussion.
It's just an Emeritus role. He has no power, when i talk about rights i talk about the importance they will have on Fedora Ambassador Project. Attention: they will not be like FAmSCo, they will be the people that can help the project.
Again, let's not add complexity to the project and have varying levels of "rank". *All* of us can help the project. Keep an even playing field and keep it simple. That is the way to encourage active participation.
I want to remember that we aren't (considering all the fedora ambassador project) all such type of ambassadors, the people i suggested in my first message are the most important, in my opinion, because their opinion were/are/will be followed by all, independently from the country and independently from the ideas.
Most important? I agree there are some very hard workers that contribute greatly to the project, but declaring some contributors more important than others is not welcoming for new contributors. Again, keep things simple. We should all be trying to help each other whenever we can - not spending our time setting up various levels of Ambassador membership. That starts to become too much like an elite club and is in my opinion more apt to discourage people from contributing.

I retire my proposal because, as many people told me, we have to focus on F7 release; so, please, after this message, don't reply to this topic that will be virtually closed (actually there aren't moderation tool to make this possible only human will :) ).
== Fedora Emeritus Ambassadors discussion, for now, is suspended and, if someone is interested it will reopen after the F7 release. ==
Thanks for your collaboration

A good idea, but somewhat premature for the people listed?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emeritus The term is used when a person of importance in a given profession retires, so that his or her former rank can still be used in his or her ^^^^^^^ title. This is particularly useful when establishing the authority a person might have to comment, lecture or write on a particular subject.
