Hi, as I said at Flock, I'd like to make t-shirts who would not only be for contributors, but also for users. At events such as FOSDEM, we meet a lot of loyal, long-term users who beg us for t-shirts. We cannot sell them, but we give them away in limited numbers (say <= per one large event).
I've asked Masha of the design team to make some design for us. And here are some mockups: https://fedorahosted.org/design-team/ticket/406
I'd like to hear from others how they like them or if they have different suggestions.

Hello Jiri,
looking at the mockups I'm seeing the blue is the only provided color; in the lower version of this mockup https://fedorahosted.org/design-tea m/attachment/ticket/406/fedora_user_T-Shirtv2.svg, could we change the color? light gray, white or else?
Thanks.
Gabri
It would be nice if this available for those who could not attend the flock but still contribute.
Thanks

I really like the design. I don't get the "Certified" wording. It may also cause some confusion and people asking how they get certified.
I agree with nikos. It will create confusion over the certified wording but everything else looks just awesome.

I think we should avoid using "certified" unless we actually are going to certify users in some way.
I'd also be interested in using some of the new Fedora Workstation / Cloud / Server artwork. I love our infinity F, but I often get "Oh, I thought it was Facebook".
I like the idea of giving away t-shirts to recognize longtime users and community members. I believe that we should definitely, however, specify some criteria for this.
Also, I agree with Nikos that the term "Certified User" might be a bit confusing. We could perhaps replace it with something like "Proud Fedora User".
Just my two cents here. -Giannis

Hi all,
maybe some of you know Linux Counter [1], ans since a long time I had the idea to put something like that for our "users"; that said, it would be really awesome if we could get a online registration maybe and then a shirt with ... "Fedora registered user". For sure for the registration there must be a online portal and the details you need to give the Fedora Project could be various like - (chat-) name - I want to have a Newsletter - e-mail address - or whatever but this could also be an idea to get closer to our users, not contributors.
Do you get my point?
Best wishes Gerold

I would personally prefer to just give a t-shirt to a person that is well proven to be a longtime user and/or community member (i.e. has come across our booth and started talking about his experiences).
If we make people to sign-up somewhere, then some of them might do it just to get the t-shirt.

I think very active users there are really contributors as well, even if they're not packagers or otherwise active.
But, kind of on the other side, I don't think it's really a good source of data. It's often been a not very friendly list, and, let's face it, these days, a mailing list is both esoteric, a little outdated, and a level of commitment which means that people on that list are not really likely to be very representative of Fedora users overall. We might have better luck with social media.

I'm doing some work here in my University - Puerto Rico. I have a little group of GNU/Linux users. I always follow the mail list but, not always have something to say. The mail list helps a lot. Would be great to have some light in how to proceed better in spread the word!

Hello Gerold, it's nice talking with you again;
there are a couple of limits to your suggestion:
1) Is it reasonable logging in a online form for getting a t-shirt? (we have the FAS as well, it's not for contributors but for everyone);
2) if your proposal is successful, how many t-shirts do we have to produce? Too much IMHO.
See you soon mate.

Hi,
I see at the reaction that it´s not absolutly clear (which is correct) what I like or what my intention behind are. First, it is NOT MANDATORY to register to get one .... BUT it is requested :-) If you register yourself (if you like) you´ll get maybe a unique "Fedora registered user-ID" where it´s up to you what you do with that; you can do such maybe just on events with getting in touch with Fedora Staff, or u just like to show that on your webpage (with a banner, which makes me pointing finger to the creative unit with mo) or, or, or ... I am absolutly proud to be a "linux user, register myself at linux counter, but I would be more proud, if I had a registered "Fedora user number" which musn´t harm any personal rights ... In genereal this is also a marketing campeign which must be worked on, very detailed. As well as touching a lot of units inside our community to get such a thing done ...

I didn't spoke about mandatory or not mandatory; I only pointed out if people will register themselves only for a T-shirt in change. I'm guessing if people could waste time (let me say "waste time" even if it's not an accurate term) for having a t-shirt that a dozens (or more) of people could get. E.g. I can decide to register if in the t-shirt there will be written "Gabri - registered user # xxxxx", this would be a real acknowledgment.

Yes, that's make sense, and we can merge discussion open in the council -discuss ML order to have feedback from users about Fedora. Something like "tell me about your experience with Fedora and you will receive a reward". But this, as you say, is a marketing discussion that goes deeper than the scope of Jiri's question (IMO collecting addresses is a gathering of sensible data, and we have to grant anonymity).
Just my five cents and thoughts, so far

Greetings.

I think that if you make a new topic with fedora counter will be better received thta put it on a t-shirt topic.
I Like the idea of a Fedora counter.
Not sure it is needed to be linked to t-shirts.

And here are some mockups: https://fedorahosted.org/design-team/ticket/40 6
I'd like to hear from others how they like them or if they have different suggestions.

Hi, Masha has changed the design from Certified to Proud Fedora User. Is it something we can go with? I'd like to have the t-shirts ready for FOSDEM, so we don't have much time left for production.

"Proud Fedora User" sounds like a good catchphrase to me. +1 on the wording.
Curious, are these shirts going to be handed out openly or just to users who have an extended conversation with those behind the booth and/or it is clear they are big fans of Fedora from a user perspective? I feel like it may be more rewarding and encouraging to those who are definitely Fedora fans to get a t-shirt just because it's clear they are a fan, as compared to someone just passing by. Maybe this was already discussed - I am just seeing the topic now, though. :)
I also don't have any experience at a Linux event, so maybe that all sounds odd anyways. It's just some of my thoughts on it!

Thanks a lor Jiri for the idea :) The new (v3) design is very good in my opinion :). I think the wording is awesome :)

I agree with the idea. It is good way to say thanks to the people that only uses and believes in Fedora (not participate).

Hi Justin, we won't produce the t-shirt in very large quantities. If you have, say, 50 t-shirts for FOSDEM which has >5000 visitors, you need to have some criteria for giving them away. One of the ideas was to ask visitors to show us they have a FAS account and got the Fedora badge for the conference. Or it can simply be users that show big interest in Fedora, are long- term users (which you can learn from the conversation with them). At FOSDEM, there are dozens of long term users who come to our booth to show us their support and they sometimes have very interesting conversations with us. And many of them literally beg for some Fedora swag, willing to pay for it. When I came up with an idea for this t- shirt, I had these users in mind.
Jiri

It's up to the regions or whoever decides about the production expense.
