Ooo, splash screens. So my bet is that to make these ready, we probably need closure on the wallpaper theming -- in other words, if there's a radical change in the wallpaper, it could affect the way the splashes look.
I remember seeing some Planet Fedora entries concerning the wallpaper and soliciting feedback. Is there a need to sort out that feedback and figure out what's actionable and applicable to the wallpaper theme?

So I'm obviously not an artist or able to make any of this material. But is there anything I can do to help ensure it *does* get made by the team?
It would be wonderful to see, after the wallpaper gets updated however the team sees fit, a bunch of people helping to prepare the graphics, banners, and media art over the next couple of weeks. That way we have everything lined up to go for the F13 Beta launch, and for the people who are going to give their time to get media produced all over the world.
Would it be helpful to file these as tickets and then get them assigned to some of the designers on the team?
If you need any help with the banners and such, lemme know! :)

You should assume the answer to this is "Yes"! :-) Stop by #fedora-design on IRC and check in with the artists to find out what needs to be done here. At the very least they can point you to the technical specifications for the banners and explain what needs to be done.

Would you be willing to take on the large banner that goes on the front of fedoraproject.org?
I need to make some adjustments to the wallpaper based on the feedback we got (http://mairin.wordpress.com/2010/03/11/fedora-13s-artwork-need-your-help-for... ) - I'm hoping to have that ready by this Thurs or Friday. Then you could make use of that artwork in it if needed.
The large banners typically look like this:
"Unite." https://fedoraproject.org/w/uploads/9/91/Fedora12-released-banner-big_1e.png
"Reign." https://fedoraproject.org/w/uploads/7/7a/Fedora11-released-banner-big_1e.png
"Fire it up." https://fedoraproject.org/w/uploads/d/dd/Fedora10-0day-banner.png
"Make waves." https://fedoraproject.org/w/uploads/f/f7/Artwork_PromoBanners_fedora9_0day_b...
Some things to note about the specs here:
- no text, just 'fedora' (or just the logo mark or 'f') and the version number - we don't want to have to translate it
- they usually have at least one screenshot
- It should somehow be related to the release slogan - for F13 this is "Rock it."
- they're typically 600x200 pixels, with rounded corners.
What do you think?

OK. Sounds cool. Just ping me when you have the final version and I'll get to work immediately. That wallpaper is awesome and will make a great background.

Since the wallpaper is taking a bit longer than anticipated, and since it'll look very similar to what we already had for the alpha anyway (same colors, same texture, maybe composition a little different) would you mind starting on this design now, and we can swap out the screenshot showing the wallpaper (should you choose to use one) later on, so at least the basic framework of the banner is in place?
I think using this for now is the safest bet: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/File:F13-concept-rocketskytrails2.jpg

There's no XCF. It was done entirely in Inkscape. The SVG source is right on that page:

Hope that helps?

This is very embarrasing. How can I cut out a piece of a jpg image with inkscape - I have the size of a rounded rectangle I want to have, but and I think I should use the path functions - but I can't make the jpg a path. Please help me :D

Put the path to cut it on top of the jpg, then select both and do:

Time is really getting quite tight on these graphics. If you'd rather work on the GTK stuff let me know and I can try to pick this up from you.

Indeed.

I think the feedback can be summed like this: the swirls look a bit too Debian-like and they are a bit to white and contrasting with the rest of the image. Also, the stars are a bit too strong and too many.

The easiest way to address the Beta banner is to build upon the one used for Alpha and improve it slightly (to mark an evolution from Alpha to Beta).
The count down graphic can be based on those banners or not, but it has the same image size.
Would it be helpful to file these as tickets and then get them assigned to some of the designers on the team?
Unfortunately my next few days are busy, I work on some materials (graphics, photos, video and web) for Document Freedom Day, so I don't think I can contribute this week with other things besides advice.
