Hello!
A linux's community from Chili, Universidad Central de Chile (Ucentuxhttp://linux.ucentral.cl), are working for a Linux Day, getting people to explain some work of Fedora Project, Open Source and Free Software some like the pass event in Brazil with Lula Da Silva.
The information will be in the web site comming soon. BUT! we need some help with art, because we dont have yet the logo for this event, then I think here I can get some help to make the logo for Fedora Linux Day - Chile and one poster to promotion this event.
Can I get help with someone here?
Thank u so muuuch!
Attached is an idea I had based on the Chilean flag. This may be better for the logo than the poster, but I don't know. Just tossing it out there. OK. I understand from my reading of the usage guidelines of the Fedora Logo and symbol that I cannot present the symbol in the manner of the Chilean Flag I made yesterday. This current attached version leaves at least the minimum clear space and adds in the required TM. It is my first thing so I am curious to see what everybody thinks. It is a raster drawing, and so as it currently stands could not be scaled up to be a basis of the poster Mr. Montero will someday need. Sorry for not replying earlier Charles. Indeed, your first graphic was a violation of the logo usage guidelines and the second version is better from this point of view.
But you don't have to go with a white background for the logo, that square can come in any color (which will still leave the logo readable, by providing enough contrast). For example you can make it light blue, as the secondary color used in the logo.
PS: i suspect the original requester, Jonathan, is not subscribed to the list and may not follow our conversation, so added him in CC
Thanks Nicu!
Im follow the list now! Can write anything to read the conversation and see the logo ?

Jonathan,
Do not use this attached one yet because it is a rough draft that is not using the officially approved fedora logo (that I have requested from the source). This is also a pixel based drawing that would look jagged if we scale it up to make a poster. It is for discussion purposes. When I get the official "f" symbol I will produce a vector version of this (if you like it) and that version could be used small or scaled up into a poster size and can have your announcement words put on it somewhere. I think I will try to make the area with the "f" to be more similar in size to the white star on your country's flag.
I am curious if you know whether there is a law in Chile that could get you in trouble with local authorities for this type of alteration to the flag. I think no problem for the law in chile authorities for alteration of the flag.
With the logo for the WebSite, we are thinking this logo http://fedoraproject.org/w/uploads/b/ba/Logo_fudcon-logo.png modify word "Fudcom" for "Ucentux" (community) and word "Location" for "Fedora"

It looks like we are heading in the right general direction with the flag. I am not a native Spanish speaker and so if words on there will be in Spanish we will have to proofread the work carefully.
Concerning the second image it looks like you might be able to recycle that one the way it is by obtaining the full sized image. That one appears to be a thumbnail (small) version based on the metadata in the link address.
Concerning the changes to the third image, because the word "fedora" will be there we will have to be careful to use the correct font and color as prescribed by the guidelines, but that should be no problem because the same source that provides the officially authorized file for the "f" will also provide an officially authorized image file for the "fedora" that can be dropped into the website logo.
Are you in a big hurry by any chance?

Sorry for not replying earlier Charles. Indeed, your first graphic was a violation of the logo usage guidelines and the second version is better from this point of view.
But you don't have to go with a white background for the logo, that square can come in any color (which will still leave the logo readable, by providing enough contrast). For example you can make it light blue, as the secondary color used in the logo.

I can perhaps do that if I take my file to my windows computer and do it on a primitive version of Photoshop I have there. There is kind of a licensing problem about Tahoma in linux described here: http://wiki.linuxquestions.org/wiki/Installing_Windows_fonts and so I don't have it handy on this fedora machine. Give me an hour or so to walk across the street to my apartment and try to draw it with that windows computer.

OK. I think this attached one satisfies the font, and color, and minimum open surrounding space rules. Look at it and see if you like it. You should also wait for someone like Nicu or Mairin to say it is OK because I am a brand new guy and this is the first stuff I have tried to do for the Fedora Project. We can change the color of Ucentux, but the color of "fedora" on a white background has to be this specific color for the most part.

Jonathan,
Do not use this attached one yet because it is a rough draft that is not using the officially approved fedora logo (that I have requested from the source).

All right. This attached version has Ucentux as allcaps in Tahoma, (which I had as part of my legitimately purchased Windows Vista copy on that other computer). I have moved the words a little farther apart and I think it looks better that way. I leave it up to more experienced members of the design team to rule on whether this is an acceptable logo to rise to the level of a "contribution" and not run afoul of any guidelines.

Please do not use fonts not shipped in Fedora in Fedora artwork or promotional material. Thanks
I suggest you the simplest way of going with a translation of one of our current posters:
http://fedorapeople.org/groups/designteam/Fedora%20Collateral/Posters/Four%2...
We used the "4 foundations" theme at a few events this year and it was successful.
Sources are available for Inkscape and Scribus, so translating is trivial.

Oh, and there is some ready-made Spanish language stuff from our amazing Tatica:

FWIW these are both usages of the Fedora logo that are *not* in sync with our current usage guidelines. The sublogo font is not MgOpen Modata and they both violate the clear space rule as well.
With the logo for the WebSite, we are thinking this logo http://fedoraproject.org/w/uploads/b/ba/Logo_fudcon-logo.png modify word "Fudcom" for "Ucentux" (community) and word "Location" for "Fedora"
The FUDcon logo and logomark is meant only for FUDcon events. If your event is not a FUDcon it is not a good idea to use the FUDcon logomark. You could use just the logotype though and omit the FUDcon-specific logo mark.
However through the logo queue I've provided an acceptable logo for the event so I hope you'll consider using that.
Thanks, ~m
what about using the mockup I made for the education sig???

This looks good, but I would put more space between 'Fedora' and 'Linux Day Chile 2009', and align the 'L' to the left of the 'f' in Feora, and push the logomark to the left a bit.

Something like this? Remember that those are 2 proposals; you should pic only one. I like most the one at bottom
Y gracias Jonathan!!! es divertido leer español en la lista :D

OK. I understand from my reading of the usage guidelines of the Fedora Logo and symbol that I cannot present the symbol in the manner of the Chilean Flag I made yesterday. It is a raster drawing, and so as it currently stands could not be scaled up to be a basis of the poster Mr. Montero will someday need.
Where did you get that copy of the Fedora logo? that is from one of the early mockups of the Fedora logo, but it is not the standard logo we use. You'll note that the lighter blue is much lighter than it should be, and the top right and bottom left ends of the 'f' are longer than they normally are in the official logo.
Can you email logo@fedoraproject.org to get proper copies of the logo to use?
~m
I'll do that (email). I will see if I can retrace my steps about where the other one came from that I grabbed for this mockup. With one more tutorial, I should know enough inkscape to re-do this whole thing as a scalable vector drawing. I will research the precise aspect ratio and field placement of the Chilean Flag too. Thanks for the comments everybody. I am still learning how to swim and appreciate all the help I can get.

I have emailed for the approved copy of the Fedora Symbol, specifically describing what I intend to do with it.
The thing I am pretty sure I had done to get that unauthorized version was to Google image search for "fedora logo" which produces a first page showing that version on three sites: www.windows-hq.com has it as a .png file and dcala.wordpress.com/ has the same as a .jpg file in the July 30, 2009 post. The third is musinpice.blogspot.com where it appears in the October 12, 2005 post along side of a substantially forward slanted version that the blogger had drawn himself.
