Flexifilter and FWN

I started experimenting with the Flexifilter module: http://drupal.org/project/flexifilter It allows parsing of different kinds of text to render as HTML content in a Drupal page. (There was an earlier version of this module that used PEAR parsing routines, whose page recommends Flexifilter instead.) There's a test page here: http://publictest4.fedoraproject.org/drupal/node/11 Last night I wrote some customization for handling <ref> tags, but it's not complete. I just wanted to see how hard it was to create a new handler. Some things are frighteningly easy, like headings. Some are a little more difficult -- not in concept, just in using the web interface to create them! Fortunately there's a way to write the filter in code and then import it. The point of doing this is that it would make people's lives very easy if they could just paste in wiki text and have it Just Work(tm). I'm going to continue working on this in light of the work session Pascal and I had yesterday. The process for entering an FWN issue is pretty simple, and this would shave off an extra portion of time that otherwise the editor would have to spend tweaking the markup. Pascal, are you willing to locate any FWN workflow writeup you did earlier, and tweak it to match what we did yesterday? -- Paul W. Java Devs for EtherPad FAD -- Olin -- Outside Boston

Hey all, Still tackling this EtherPad FAD (http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Etherpad_FAD) and need some Java/J2EE/build system/packaging whizzes. The FAD purpose is going to require some Ant/Maven work, some Java project refactoring, some best-practices Java-fedora packaging. I blitzed the java-devel list but no luck. Also tried scraping people off OpenHatch (no responses). Its been about a week. Any suggestions? I really think if we got just one good developer, we'd be set for the event. In other news, I'm going to get some feedback from my academnic advisor and some CS professors about the event. I'm hoping one of them will come help out or will give a talk on a related subject or something. We shall see, I'm very hopeful. Doing course plan paperwork has never been so productive! Colin is the man (RE: EtherPad)

Looks like we're off to a great start - thanks for bringing this a step closer to being a real thing! It does suck that we won't have The Mel on our side, and I agree we need to find some more language experts. Armed with dates for the event, I can try my hand again at poaching some developers. And remember, serious JavaScript programmers may be just as useful as Java programmers, since a decent chunk of the app is server-side JS. We'll want a mixture of programmers and packaging/deployment people. And polyglots in general--people who can parse unfamiliar languages, since I doubt we're going to meet our quota on people that know Scala. I wouldn't worry so much about lunch at Masala Art. Either we announce it as pay-your-own-way, and make exceptions for the people who've flown or train'd in for the event; or we can look for someplace cheaper to go; or we can order in from someplace cheaper, using the magic of foodler.com. For attendees who have real Java/Scala/build system/packaging chops, getting them a delicous brunch at Masala Art is the least we can do for them. Buuut, for the random Oliner who stops by and listens to a talk, I don't think paying for Masala Art Brunch is a good use of Fedora/Red Hat funds. Thoughts? So, I would like to get knowledgeable "heavy hitters" as "registered attendees." I'm actually a little concerned sending out registration invites to Oliners ATM because I don't want people to come just for the $14 brunch. Actually I'm concerned for the same reason with Fedora mailing lists. Buuut I don't expect area locals to bother driving to Needham just for $14 brunch, so probably less of a concern. Again, thoughts? Is this honest? Should I remove brunch from the wiki? Should I mark brunch as a "for serious devs only"? (this certainly seems unfair). Colin P.S.
