With Gnome 2.28 in F12, it will be possible to have different icons for
the xdg dirs:
Documents: folder-documents
Download: folder-download
Music: folder-music
Pictures: folder-pictures
Public: folder-publicshare
Templates: folder-templates
Videos: folder-videos
It would be pretty cool if we could create icons for this in a style
that matches the existing user-home icon in our default icon theme (ie
the folder icon with an overlayed embled in the Mist theme).
http://live.gnome.org/GnomeArt/ArtRequests/issue26 has some more
information on the general idea. And here is another screenshot that can
serve as inspiration:

Any takers ?

Sorry to unfairly call out a specific ticket...
https://fedorahosted.org/design-team/ticket/57
But this design is something we really need if we want to have
vertical banners in time for the Red Hat Summit. Netiher the reporter
nor I have the skills required to adapt the existing designs for the
requested banner size. Full details about the submission format and
other requirements are available in the ticket.
Anyone have time to work on this?

Hi,
we've taken over the F12_Artwork wiki page [1] created by
bioinfornatics, cleaned it up and added the designs concepts I've found
in the design-team archives. It's important that you visit the page and
check if your design concept wasn't omitted. If so, please add it to the
wiki. Note: I haven't bothered putting different variations of the same
concept, if you feel the need to have them, either include link to the
alternatives or create and link a separate page dedicated for the
concept.
Another news is that the Release Artwork Process [2] is now official and
should serve as reference.
Also, according to our current Schedule [3], we are past the concept
submission deadline and have about another eight days for working on the
wallpapers we want to review for F12 Alpha inclusion. So if you have a
design concept you like, focus your work onto it and help making it
awesome :-)
Thanks,
Martin

I was thinking while the literal moisac idea is beautiful, abstracting the
idea can make for really deep background that can be made less distracting.
Here's a texture/color layer I've been playing around with. (as its self
it's a bit distracting, but layered over solid it really is pretty). I will
waive CC requirements for Fedora use.

Hi,
I have two 8x3 (feet) walls to cover and, I was looking at whether
there are any Fedora designs that I can use to make the poster. I
could not find anything on the wiki that fits the dimensions. Perhaps
I was not looking hard enough.
If it matters at all, the background wall color is white and, I'd be a
happy camper if I could get a design.

I tested abrt ( http://www.fedoraproject.org/wiki/Features/ABRTF12 )
again recently, and one of the things that has come out of my review is
the need for some icons:
https://fedorahosted.org/design-team/ticket/38
It would be great to get those done for F12, abrt is close to the point
where it starts to be actually useful, so we may consider turning it on
by default for F12.

Hi Everyone,
Thanks to Paul and Máirín for taking time out of their schedule to meet
on Friday using Fedora Talk and Gobby. I think we've got a pretty solid
schedule now, though there are sure to be a few last goofs to fix. So
if you see any let me know.
Some of the key ideas for the planning and schedule for this release are
to focus on the importance of the wallpaper and iteratively improve
it.... making sure it is in the alpha and then releasing updated
packaged versions in rawhide each week. In addition to releasing new
versions Máirín thought it would help get the word out if people blog
about the updated wallpaper each week. So after each of the wallpaper
refreshes there is a also a separate task for blogging.
I had to remove the individual entries for EACH splash screen. It got
too unwieldy when we added an extra iteration for the splashes. Does
the design team have a place on their wiki where the keep SOPs or lists
of standard work items for each release? I'd be glad to put them there
for you. I would also suggest that you create tickets for each of these
splash screens so there are clear work items interested people can work on.
For ease of reference here is the list:
Fullscreen splash for syslinux
Fullscreen grub splash
kdm login screen theme
Square splash for anaconda and firstboot
gnome splash screen
kde splash screen
gnome screensaver lock dialog
Anaconda horizontal header
Firstboot vertical header
Start Alpha Freeze
Software String Freeze
Create Alpha Website Banner
Alpha Release Readiness Meeting
Alpha Public Availability
Package Splash Screens
I also noticed that comparing this schedule to Fedora 11 the time frame
is a little tighter. For Fedora 12, splash screens are not targeted for
completion until the Beta release (previously known as "Preview
Release"). I believe the intention here is to target the splashes a
little later when hopefully the wallpaper is almost frozen so that
splashes don't have to be reworked multiple times.
Here is the latest version of the design schedule:
http://poelstra.fedorapeople.org/schedules/f-12/f-12-design-tasks.html
Often it is easier to get a better view of the flow of tasks by loading
the iCal version to your favorite calendaring application and browsing
from there. It is also a great way to keep reminders handy of important
dates:
http://poelstra.fedorapeople.org/schedules/f-12/f-12-design.ics
NOTE: the iCal file does not contain ALL tasks. It only shows
milestones (tasks with duration less than or equal to one day).
I'm here to help. If there are other tasks or periodic reminders I can
set up for your team, let me know.
Thanks,
John
Hi all,
based on a discussion in another thread, I've put together a skeleton
DRAFT of our new release artwork process [1] so that we have something
to work with. I was pretty brief with the wording, so it will probably
need an expansion. Feel free to add your comments/edits/... :-)
The ultimate goal is to get it finished and officially accepted sometime
around FUDCon so that we can start on next release using this new
process.
I think it would also be useful to also keep release specific sub-pages
with exact dates and perhaps a task list (can be a reference to a
milestone in our ticket system) included.
