Asterisk 1.8 for EPEL6

Now that Asterisk 1.8.0 has finally been released, I am going to be switching EPEL6 to Asterisk 1.8.* while RHEL6 is still in beta. Digium plans to maintain 1.8.0 as a "Long Term Support" release which means that support will be available from Digium for almost as long as Red Hat supports RHEL6, whereas support for Asterisk 1.6.2.X will be ending in 2012. I believe that at least one of the Fedora Talk boxes has been upgraded to a RHEL6 beta so I don't want you all to be surprised when the update shows up... Waiting for fas03 to reboot

fas03 is currently having some issues we are trying to track down. The system is setup to supposedly preserve when it crashes next. If that works we will make a 'dump' of it by logging into xen07 and doing a sudo /usr/sbin/xm dump-core fas03 and then restarting fas03. If you find fas03 'crashed' please notify me either on freenode IRC in #fedora-noc or via the pager. MD1000 Nagios monitoring

Hi, i'm reading through https://fedorahosted.org/fedora-infrastructure/ticket/1103 and i'm wondering that the last modification date is two years ago. I'm monitoring two of such MD1000 boxes. Both connected through PERC controllers with two PowerEdge R710 servers. And i'm using the check_megaraid_sas Nagios module which depends on the LSI MegaCli Tool. So far i'm very happy with this and it works very well since months. Anybody out there with a better or another solution ? Don't think there exists a OSS option for this. regards Walter

The one time passwords generated by the yubikey can safely be used with multiple services. The thing that is unsafe is using the same AES key with multiple ykksm's. Yubico runs a ykksm for people to use with some third party websites that support yubikeys. The fedoraproject provides its own ykksm server. If you use the same AES key with both of these then if one of the servers is compromised, both are compromised. If you only use your key with one of the ykksm's then you can safely use your otps on other sites and there will be no negative ramifications (other than not being able to authenticate). The newer yubikey hardware has provision for two AES keys but I'm not sure how that works and whether it actually allows you to use separate keys with separate servers. Someone will need to look into this. -Toshio

Introducing

Hi there, I'm Walter and I'm based in Germany (CET / CEST) in a town near Cologne. Working as a Senior System Engineer / Admin since more than ten years with Linux. My first distro was RedHat 4.2 and i'm using Fedora since version 1.0. I joined Fedora Project 2005 and helped out as a volunteer on bugzapping and testing. https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/User:Walt The last four weeks i looked at the infrastructure mailing list and the #fedora-admin channel. I couldn't make it to the infrastructure meeting because its current bad at CEST for me. But i will participate in the near future. I worked with Nagios serval years and do monitoring with Nagios for two companys at the moment. For my opinion the sysadmin-noc group will be a good starting point and a way to get a good overview to get involved in further things. Maybe to be a member of sysadmin-web or/and sysadmin-hosted group. I'm skilled also in - web server administration - mailserver, postfix, sendmail, dovecot - web clustering, software-hardware loadbalancing - virtualization, KVM, VMware and some other things as well.
