Greetings. As I mentioned on IRC and on email a bit back, Dell would like to donate a couple servers to the Fedora project, to be used wherever hardware (not people) are the bottleneck towards progress. We've got budgeted enough for 2 moderately configured PowerEdge 2950 servers, and have until about July 18 to get them ordered (else we lose the money). I'd be happy to work with whomever appropriate to get the order placed.
Please cc: me explicitly as I'm not on f-i-l.
Thanks, Matt

If possible, I would like to mark one of these for Legacy use. We'll need a box to run plague from, and a box to do the sign+push from. Legacy is a fun issue as I'd like to push to the existing updates/ tree for the legacy releases. Not sure how well that's going to work, but that's another topic for another day.
BTW< any progress on a CVS tree of FC3 for Legacy to use?

I'm working on the Legacy stuff now, should be done soon.

Assuming we have rack space in the colo (Stacy?), it sounds like we can use one machine for Fedora Legacy, and I think we really ought to start thinking about having more than one database server, so just tell me what I need to do to help you get this ordered...

Short of it is, go to dell.com, large business segment, and spec out PowerEdge 2950 systems like you need (they need not be identical). Send me the "Print Summary" page of SKUs for each config, and I'll see if it fits in the budget, then we can negotiate features up/down depending on leftover money.
For example, 2 x dual-core Xeon 5130 4MB CPUs, 8GB RAM, 3 146GB 10krpm SAS disks, PERC5/i controller, dual gigabit ethernet, DRAC5, rails, cables etc. is within the budget if you wanted 2 systems like that. :-)
Thanks, Matt
