What Happened to the "ooolilypond" Package?

rt-kernel for F15

Fernando, I tried this kernel in the ccrma repos and it did not boot up properly. It also messed up my system somehow. I'm back on a fresh F15 now :). Any news on the stability of this kernel? Does it boot properly for you?

Guitarix 0.16.0 released into f15 updates-testing, obsoletes gx_head

Hi all, this is just a heads up regarding recent Guitarix / gx_head development. I while ago development of guitarix split into two sub branches guitarix and gx_head. Not long after new package gx_head hit the f14 and f15 repos the upstream developers announced that development would be merged back into a single guitarix project. I've released a new guitarix-0.16.0-3 build to F15 updates-testing that obsoletes gx_head-0.14.0-3 package and corrects building of the gx_head ladspa plugins. f14 versions of guitarix and gx_head remain unchanged and will do unless there is enough interest / good reason to update f14 also. For some reason my firewire card (motu ultralite) is working in fedora with a custom libffado-svn build (actually not very well yet), and not in my Arch system. There is no real reason for that. Maybe a udev update (fedora: 168, arch: 171). But I still get random disconnects with Fedora anyway. I'd really like to know why this.. :S..

This kernel definitely not as good in terms of latency as 2.6.33 + rt31, but it may (should?) be better than the stock Fedora kernel, and can use systemd to boot.

In reply to Orcan and Fernando and the rt kernel issues in F15, I have used the ck(Con Kolivas) patch and had good results while using JACK on Fedora 15. It is fairly straightforward to patch and configure. I won't say that it is better than the rt kernel because I never tested enough to know for sure. The only drawback is that this patch is not officially supported by the linux community. It is only a side project that he does for "fun". Anyways, it may be a temporary fix until the other problems with the rt kernel are sorted out. here is the link http://users.on.net/~ckolivas/kernel/ Thanks everyone, Bill Blackburn

fedora 15 vs. the rt kernel

Hi all, just a couple of comments about rt patched kernels and Fedora 15. In short, it looks like 2.6.33.x is too old to work with the new systemd startup system in Fedora 15. While I did manage to boot, shutting down did not work (at least not cleanly) and others have not been able to even boot "legacy" 2.6.33.x-rtxx kernels in Fedora 15. Apparently this is the issue: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=628004 So, for now the only option seems to be to use the newest 2.6.39.1 kernel with threaded irqs active. This is _not_ a fully rt patched kernel and my initial tests with the cyclictest utility show higher latency hits than rt31. I'm currently building and testing packages. Another option would be to revert (for now) from systemd to the previous startup scripts. I don't know if that is even possible, maybe others in the lists would be able to comment. -- Fernando

linuxsampler Licensing question

I was looking at the Audio Creation SIG wiki and noticed that linuxsampler was a program that was listed on there slated for implementation. After reviewing the website it looked like the program had a Commercial exemption for hardware and software. Before we start spending a TON of time looking for a new alternative I wanted to verify that we would not be able to ship this program in a spin. csound and cecilia4

hello!! anyone trying to package cecilia4? It's a nice application. It's not hard per se, there is no compilation btw, it's written in python pyqt and pyaudio, but to use cecilia4 in fedora 15 one would need to recompile csound, that could be annoying for a new user. the official fedora package does not have portaudio support enabled, maybe there is another reason for that? best! bernardo
