How to set default session type to Plasma for sddm

Hi How do I set the default session type for sddm to offer to be Plasma? I'm currently getting Gnome Classic? This is F22. Thanks Roderick Johnstone

Crashes

Hello, I was curious about something. KDE has its own crash handling system. How does this community track any metrics around code stability if upstream gets reports? Kontact has segfaulted 20 times on me today. Each time it says it cannot generate a bug report. Abrtd does not seem to pick up anything. Shouldn't it? How does this community track when a recent update suddenly starts making things crash? Kontact was fine 3 weeks ago. I updated today (3 weeks of patches) and its crashing all the time to the point its unusable. It won't generate a bug report, abrtd seems not to notice either. -Steve

nntp (aka, usenet) client in kde?

I currently use t-bird with an nntp account pointing to gmane to read this list and sereral others. Does kde have an nntp client program of any sort? I don't see it as a possible new account type in kmail. Also, search with kpackagekit yields nothing with "usenet" or "nntp" that is kde specific. -gene

Surely this should not go away. There is the issue that it depends on Python 2, which should probably be taken up with upstream (though apparently OpenMandriva has it building with Python 3, so that might work for us too). KDE now available on EPEL 8 ... playground

# KDE now available on EPEL 8 playground Many thanks to all those who have helped make this happen. ## Why playground only KDE on EPEL 8 really needs to be in modules.[1] So we don't have to pull all the KDE packages out of normal EPEL8, we have chosen to only have them in EPEL8 playground, until modules are available in EPEL8. ## How to install ### First: install epel-release rpm -Uvh https://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/epel/epel-release-latest-8.noarch.rpm ### Second: Enable epel-release-playground vi /etc/yum.repos.d/epel-playground.repo ( set enabled=1 for epel-playground ) ### Third: Enable codeready-builder-for-rhel-8 [2] subscription-manager repos --enable codeready-builder-for-rhel-8-x86_64-rpms ### Fourth: install KDE dnf group install "KDE Plasma Workspaces" (Optional) dnf group install kde-desktop (Optional) dnf group install kde-apps (Optional) dnf group install kde-media --skip-broken (Optional) dnf group install kde-education (Optional) dnf group install kde-software-development (Optional) dnf group install kf5-software-development ### Fifth: Set sddm / KDE as desktop manager and desktop [3] dnf install switchdesk system-switch-displaymanager switchdesk kde system-switch-displaymanager sddm systemctl set-default graphical.target ## Non-Essential, but major Packages that didn't build calligra (An integrated office suite) -- too many dependencies to build at this time. telepathy (and everything depending on it) -- python2 based and required python2-dbus, which isn't in RHEL8 ## Footnotes [1] - Modules needed due to packages not in CRB, QT5 5.11, and a few other smaller reasons. Problem with keeping window setting

Hi I hope this list can help me with an annoying problem. I recently changed my monitor on my stationary laptop to an other model. Since the change I have to configure the monitor settings in the control panel every time I boot. It forgets that the monitor shall be the primary display and it also forgets the screen resolution for the monitor. Which are the configuration files that KDE keeps this information? And why does it forget my settings? I'm running Fedora 30 on my Lenovo X201 laptop, which as written above is stationary, because the power button does not function any more, so only the power button on the docking station can power it up. Change background color for the selected tab on konsole

Hi, I'm trying to change the background color of the tab bar of Konsole instances for the selected tab. In doing research I find that making a QtabBar.css file and asking Konsole to use it. I don't see where it would be placed in the filesystem and how to tall Konsole(s) to use that file. Could someone help me with this please? Regards, George... F29: kdeinit5 closing unexpectedly every 5 minutes

With fully updated F29 I'm suddenly seeing this. 'Please report' but reporting and debugging seem broken for this. I wonder if it's related to historic enabling of kdesu and perhaps the kannolo repo? Suggestions? John P
