it's just that the nepomuk-free kde-workspace build from kde-unstable got superceded by a recent update:
https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2014-7457/kde-workspace-4.11....
We have concrete plans to start work on brining kde-4.13.x to f20 officially, but I guess we haven't decided on how best to deal with the nepomuk transition yet (ie, whether remove nepomuk-related deps from core kde packages or not).

OK, kde-sig members, please add your opinion this topic ^^.
I think I'm of a mind to removing optional nepomuk-related deps when kde-4.13.x lands, since * baloo migrates old nepomuk data * nepomukserver no longer runs, so the related features don't really work anymore (afaik).

Agree. It no longer runs and the features don't work - so why have it?

While I'm not a SIG member, may I suggest that a.) Nepomuk will be dropped in favor of Baloo and b.) Post announcements via the usual channels ( http://fedoramagazine.org , Google+, Facebook, etc.) that an update will be released and explain that the index will be recreated / converted and that this may take a while. We did the same back in the day when Nepomuk 2.0 succeeded 1.x in the official kde.org announcement, resulting in IIRC zero "Nepomuk got buggy and eats CPU" complaints. http://kde.org/announcements/4.11/platform.php

I think that only tags are migrated (?), files and PIM data are reindexed from scratch, but that does not matter given how fast and effective Baloo is.

True but it should be communicated nonetheless. I'd volunteer to write a few lines if you guys would spread them over the channels.

Here's the announcement. I wrote it late in the night, so please proofread it. A typo here and there may have slipped through.
Fedora's KDE team is pleased to announce the release of KDE Applications 4.13.2 as regular Fedora 20 update. The team is breaking habit a little bit: Usually only one bigger version jump of KDE Applications is shipped as Fedora update. However, the prolonged Fedora 21 release cycle and the fact that 4.13 passed Fedora's testing made the decision to ship 4.13 easy.
The biggest change in 4.13 is the switch of KDE Semantic Search's back-end from Nepomuk to Baloo which brings many performance and stability benefits. However, due this change the search index needs to be rebuilt. Reindexing happens automatically. How long this procedure takes depends on the amount of data stored on your hard drive. Part of this Semantic Search overhaul is a new configuration module. It's designed to be simpler for average users. More experienced users may be interested in installing <tt>baloo-kcmadv</tt>.
Other new features of 4.13 are advancements in Kontact, Kate, Dolphin, and more.

It is our pleasure to announce immediate availability of KDE Applications 4.13 for Fedora 20[1]. Due to extended release period of Fedora 21, we would like our users to continue to experience the latest features and bug-fixes from upstream.
This major release of KDE SC 4.13 introduces Baloo, an improved semantic search infrastructure, which deprecates Nepomuk[2]. Baloo brings significantly faster searching and indexing, more relevant search results, improved reliability, lower resource usage and less data storage. The upgrade requires database migration that should be handled automatically for you by the upgrade which may require temporary increased processing power. Several of the KDE applications have already been ported to Baloo while downstream applications are expected make the switch. The upstream ships a minimalistic KCM module for management of Baloo[3]. Although users with advanced needs are advised to look into baloo-kcmadv[4].

Does "less data storage" mean it stores less data, or that the data is stored more efficiently?

It's not "SC", just "Applications". KDE Semantic Search became a name, therefore you write it in capital letters.
Several of the KDE applications have already been ported to Baloo while downstream applications are expected make the switch.
Not sure if 'upstream-downstream' jargon is good....
The upstream ships a minimalistic KCM module for management of Baloo[3]. Although users with advanced needs are advised to look into baloo-kcmadv[4].
'Minimalistic' comes across as an insult...

No, it's still an euphemism, "crippled" would be the correct word.
Kevin Kofler (who thinks baloo-kcmadv should be the default and the crippled one dropped from Fedora entirely)

Advanced users have no problems installing packages afterwards, esp. when it's documented. I see no problem.

I think I'm of a mind to removing optional nepomuk-related deps when kde-4.13.x lands, since
- baloo migrates old nepomuk data
- nepomukserver no longer runs, so the related features don't really work
anymore (afaik).
