Does kdepim/kaddressbook enable one now to keep a common mailing list for Fedora/KDE and the unspeakable OS?
Maybe LDAP is the simplest solution?
The simplest solution would be to use Kontact on Windows as well and share the same std.vcf file on both OS. As long as not two different programs try to write the file at the same time, it should be no problem.

How would one run Kontact on Windows? Also, how would it interface with Windows Outlook?
At a quick look, I was not able to see where either Outlook or KMail keep their contacts. KMail is pretty good at completing email addresses for me, but I couldn't see where it keeps this data.
To be honest, I am not clear about the connection, if any, between Kontact and KAddressBook and KMail. Do they all share the same std.vcf's?
It does seem that VCF format is a sort of link between KDE and Windows, but I don't see how to exploit it.

Not at all, it would replace it. You can have both installed, but normally you'd only use one or the other.

OK, thanks, this seems like an interesting project, but I don't think it would really suit my situation, where I envisage a standard Windows Outlook user sharing an address book with a Fedora/KMail user.
As far as I can see, this should be possible using LDAP, since KMail and Outlook both seem able to use LDAP address books. It is still not clear to me if VCF data could be shared in the same way.

LDAP should work. I don't know how to connect to Exchange via LDAP but it works great with Zimbra.

You didn't ask about Outlook, just Windows. And Kontact is available for Windows as well, just like most other KDE programs.
