Hi,
Since updating to 4.6.2 kmix spins at 100% CPU, which is very disturbing. Of course I reported the bug, but as usual, got no response back.
Any idea what could be the reason? Probably my second usb sound card?
Looking foreward to Gnome3, since switching to KDE-4.1 i hope that someday kde will mature to the point where it has been with 3.5.10. It took years to realize me it never will.
Thanks, Clemens

4.6.1 has the same problem
in my case i made a "locate | /home/username | grep -i kmix" after killing the process, deleted all configuration-files and the problem was gone away _______________________
What makes me personally crazy with 4.6.2 is that the controlbar (Kontrolleiste) is placed in the middle of the screen instead the top-position i configured and so i have to unlock all widgets, confirm any configuration and lock widgets :-(
What makes me crazy too is the useless question about overwrite the target file if i rename anything in a folder-view, this is also since 4.6.x

wow, that one is a little bonkers, got any bugs filed for this yet? (If not, I probably will sooner or later).

i sent a screenshot some days ago after the first one was rejected because it was too big
see attached screenshot and take a look on the top-border in the black area over the bg-image normally are my controls, after the first login with 4.6.2 i thought "WTF my crontrols are gone away" because i did not expect them in the middle

No because i thought it is impossible that the maintainer of this damned widget will never ever rename any file :-) ___________________
BTW: is there anything planned to get the crazy way widgets are resized/placed better? Has anybody ever tried to get 6 widgets to the same size and place them in clean lines instead random position?
the way plasma widgets are resized and placed is a thing where some people i know agrees that who ever made this should be tarred and feathered every morning :-)

It's definitely not random, but perhaps your plasma configuration has grown a lot of clutter, and it's getting a little confused (I've seen that on occasion).
Personally, I've not had any (recent) complaints about widget layout and placement.
Otherwise, from your over-generalized complaint, it's difficult for me to find anything concrete to respond to. Can you perhaps provide a specific case of something you want to do, but doesn't work the way you expect? (then we can at least try to reproduce it...)

Hm - Somewhere it ignores the placement-configuration If i change anything in the config it get remebered and is placed instantly on top

Look at the full-screenshot of my desktop http://download.rhsoft.net/kde.png
try to get the widgets from scratch in the right size and position you can not resize widgets on every border and have to use this strange "mouseover-configuration-thing"
normally i would expect drag two ore more widgets to one line (maybe with a open window as help) and then resize them, but this is not possible because if you are not a medical doctor you will move them while resize, resize not only the height or width as wanted
so i really would expect if they are unlocked i can take the any border in the same way as for normal windows and only change width/height if i want so

If you unlock widgets and put the cursor near a corner of the desktop, you'll see "+" and "-" buttons, so you can add more rows or columns and reduce the size of the grids.

jesus christ this is not intuitive and i am working as web-developer since nearly 10 years, so there are two options
* the kde-desktop is designed for users only which never seen a comuter before * i am a idiot
since a normally can handle everything on a computer i do not think i am an idiot and i want the configuration-options of KDE 3 back, yeah there were no widgets but thousands other options which are gone away with 4.x
wtf there is a configuration-entry in the context-menu with no options at all

and now i went back to the normal biew because this f**ing grid let me not place my desktop-view in the left-top-border and resize it as i want
summary: this idiotic mouseover-controls in the normal view where you often can not be sure from which widget it is and where it is most times not clear if you resize or move is the badest thing i have ever seen and makes me angry since fedora decided to switch to kde4 some years to soon
remember: if you need a grid to 8 widgets in the size and position you like something must be broken and if you can not use borders and corners to resize elements in a intuitive way something is hardly broken

I wonder if all your trouble is caused by 'accretion' in the config file. I had trouble in the past when upgrading to newer Fedora version that has different KDE base version. Did you ever try to just start over with a clean config ?

What configuration of KDE 3 that you don't have ? All your troubles seems to be widget related. If you want something similar to KDE 3, then just don't use the widgets..

the usability-problems are not config-related
yes the kmix-hings was but it's also poor from the view of software-design, why does it not delete the old config-file if it is not backward-compatible
starting with a clean config? i did this with KDE 4.x and it costs me many hours we are not on windows where the solution for all problems is format/reinstall hoping something gets better or not
for getting teh crontrol-bar to the top position? normally i would expect that a software can read his existing configuration and write down in a new format on teh first start

i like the idea or teh widgets, but their implementation and usability are poor, this idiotic mouseover for resize is really a bad joke becuase often you do not see to what widget it belongs and here in western europe we are working from top-left to bottom-right not resizing upwards
this is not a configuration-issue, really, this is a design-problem

no because there are delays and they can overlap it happens for me too often that i think to konw which is active, want to take it and in this moment the widget next of that i meant gets active and droppend/resized
believe me: if you are not 100% healthy this is a real problem

I wonder, what exactly are you trying to achieve in this rant? Do you somehow assume that being extremely impolite to the Fedora KDE maintainer or the KDE developers (all volunteers, BTW) and threatening to switch to GNOME 3.0 will somehow force them to work on things that -you- consider important? Do you think that they will drop everything to fix your bugs first simply because they can't risk losing you?

I had deleted my kmix config because of this problem ~2 weeks ago, and now I am facing the same issue again.
KMix spins at 100% cpu and isn't repsonsive. Am I really expected to delete config files every two weeks to get a working Desktop.
All I expect of KDE is to get a Desktop where core components (like panel, task-manager, kwin, kmix) work fine. Social media integration, semantic desktop stuff and a complete PIM/Office suite don't add value if core components are broken like this.

should be fixed in 4.6.2, provided you clear out the largish xml files under ~/.kde/share/apps/kmix/profiles/ (quit kmix first).
