Whenever I print from okular, the print succeeds and then I see a dialog from the plasma desktop shell asking "Enter an username and password to complete the task" (sic). The usename supplied is root, and if i give the root password the dialog disappears. If I give my own username (the one i used for printing), the dialog comes back with root as default.
This happens every time I use okular. How do I stop it?
And it seems only to be okular - if i use lpr from konsole, or even the print screen menu in konsile this doesn't happen.
Regards,
Chris

Can you describe how you have printing setup on this box... you imply that printing regularly requires some password too (or did I misinterpret things)?

Printing regularly works fine and does not ask for a password, before or
after printing. Only okular asks for a password, and then only after submitting the print job.
This is on a f17 box, and only started happening a few weeks ago. I'm using a remote cups server, which i think i set up using system-config-printer. Interestingly, just now I selected the printers option from kde system settings and got the same plasma desktop dialog demanding the root password.
This made me wonder if this is a cups error.
Additionally, running okular as root from a konsole does not display a password dialog. But if i create a new account, login to a kde desktop as this new user and use okular, the password dialog is displayed.
Any help will be appreciated,
Thanks,
Chris

I guess it's trying to save some default settings for the remote printer.
