Every time I open kmail, there are 4 folders (empty) that I can't seem to get rid of. I will select one of the folders and click delete, and it disappears, but next time I login, and kmail start up again, the folder is back again. Any suggestions of how to make these permanent are more than welcome.

These are local folders. They are folders I created to filter mail into, that I now don't want.

Have you tried deleting them using Akonadi Console, I had a similar problem sometime ago and this worked for me.
I just tested this by creating some folders then deleting them and it works here KDE-4.11.00 (thanks Rex)

I will try that Monday. The folders are on my machine at work.

As a matter of interest, how do you delete folders this way? I don't see any listing of KMail folders in Akonadi Console.

To find Akonadi Console, In Kickoff type in Akonadi in the search bar. From the list shown select Akonadi Console, then go to the Browser Tab and the folders shown there.

Thanks, I found it there. But why is it under the Browser tab? I find the rationale of akonadi almost impossible to fathom.
With regard to the original query, I've found that the only reliable way to create or delete a KMail folder arising from a local dovecot/IMAP server is to run KMail on the same machine as the IMAP server.

OK, going into Akonadi Console and deleting the folders there seems to have worked. Thanks.

The Akonadi Console is designed to be a debugging tool for developers, it is not intended for end users, so the UI is nowhere near as polished as the UI of an end user tool.
