Hi,
I would like to pick up a drivel (blog tool) package. It is in the list of Retired packages since July 2008, as upstream was frozen at that time. Now it seems alive, new version was released in April 2009.
I have contacted Paul W.Frields (who has maintained drivel in Fedora) some time ago and he was keen to offer me maintaining this package.
I have checked on koji (https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=1636387) and it seems that old source are good enough to work on F11. My idea is to bring old version to F11 now until I will finish accommodating new sources. However, if this approach is not in line with rules and policies I will be glad to follow your advises.
In any case, I will need some coaching. Is it possible for someone to spend a little bit time with me on IRC (@fedora-devel, probably) to understand further steps and actions ?
Thanking you in advance,
Andrey

You're better off using the old spec file (and possibly patches) and building the new sources rather than the approach you suggest. In all probability, you'll need to fix a pile of things, drop old patches, add new patches, test, test and test some more.
In any case, I will need some coaching. Is it possible for someone to spend a little bit time with me on IRC (@fedora-devel, probably) to understand further steps and actions ?
Unfortunately, I can't get to IRC, but feel free to ask any questions :-)

Hi, Paul,
Thank you for your support. Generally, I have a lot of stupid rookie-type questions that probably are covered somewhere in documentation, but there are many things to learn and I do not know what to start with.
I wonder if my questions need to be posted in mailing list. Shall we continue in public or it is OK for direct mails ?
Regards,
Andrey

There are many people on #fedora-devel who would be willing to help you update the package and coach you through the process. I think the package has been retired for long enough that you'll need to do a new package review for it. That will be an opportunity to get some coaching on what happens to it as well.
You probably want to read the wiki pages having to do with package reviews and try to apply them to the updated drivel. Then (either when stuck or wanting some feedback), you can ask on #fedora-devel for some help.
