The size of fedora's boot cd initrd

On older CHRP based hardware, like the IBM RS/6000 7046 B50, Open Firmware offers a maximum of 16MB for kernel and initrd. The last Fedora ppc installer that got below this was Fedora 9. Later kernels boot fine, but not in combination with a "large" initrd. It may be that insisting on installing a modern OS on old boxes like this is plain silly, but still... Is it possible to get around this? Is it for example possible to boot the kernel and mount a NFS share with the initrd image as the root fs, and continue loading the installer from there? Or is it possible to trick yaboot or the firmware to boot anyway? Ingvar

Boot args for booting Fedora 12 ppc DVD

Hi, I had posted earler that just pressing enter at the boot prompt all I get is a white screen. Then Alex Kanavin said to try video=ofonly Which I have not tried, sorry to say - because in the same message Alex suggested I try the ubuntu ppc, which I downloaded and burned on my F13 (x86) machine. I booted it on the powerbook G4 in 32 bit mode and I chose the live-powerpc and it came up just fine. For the record, I tried the args video=ofonly live-powerpc64 and it failed to boot (memory fault). So, is the Powebook G4 a 32 only bit powerpc cpu or is the dvd I downloaded for the 32 bit only? If the DVD is for 32 bit only, then when I press the tab key for the boot args, why would it print the option to boot in 64 bit mode?

Computing sha1sum of dvd iso

Dear All, After I downloaded the F12 DVD iso and the CHECKSUM file, I executed sha1sum Fedora-12-ppc-DVD.iso Thevalus that comes out is the not the same as what I see in the CHECKSUM file. Not only that, it is of a much shorter length. To wit: $ grep DVD.iso Fedora-12-ppc-CHECKSUM 800ef4f121e178dcc9c8dc128825021949abe0d6d029f36cd47e39a4033c3aaa *Fedora-12-ppc-DVD.iso $ sha1sum Fedora-12-ppc-DVD.iso 548e1b544c400d39be4fbd080080424e2b5c7674 Fedora-12-ppc-DVD.iso So why the discrepancy - or by what metod is the sha1 signature of the iso computed and distributed in the Fedora-12-ppc-CHECKSUM file?

Unable to boot F12 PPC dvd on Powerbook G4

Greetings, I downloaded and burned the DVD iso for F12 from a fedora mirror http://mirror.anl.gov/pub/fedora/linux/releases/12/Fedora/ppc/iso/ After I burned it, I dd'ed it into a temp file and compared the md5sum of the temp file against the md5sum of the downloaded file. Identical - so the burn was good. I tried to boot it. At boot, The boot: prompt comes, and I just press enter. I get a blank white screen and nothing else happens. Hope someone can help me get it installed. Cheers, JD

Fedora 13 and Mac mini install

Hello- I tried to follow your instructions per http://www.redhat.com/magazine/007may05/features/mac-mini/, but things didn't quite work out right. After rebooting, I don't see that Fedora is a bootable option. I know that versions have changed -- are you aware of any detail install instructions for Fedora 13 and OSX 10.5? Much obliged!
