A similar "post everything" approach and a little magic could also nicely solve the icon caches, mime types, menus etc. performance problems.
Well, the approach I posted was what happens *with* pre-transaction syscalls, as they were implemented by Jeff. What needs to happen is that the pre-transaction stuff needs to run before the transaction is even computed, which makes it messy.
