Updates to the F13 Marketing schedule

Hi, John! Can you (at some point - not terribly vital and can wait until after the holidays) make these changes to the Marketing schedule (http://poelstra.fedorapeople.org/schedules/f-13/f-13-marketing-tasks.html)? 1. Delete tasks 13 and 15, which refer to a deliverable (the tour) we've deprecated in favor of the one-page release notes (which serve the same intended purpose). 2. Add a task called "Brief Ambassadors on upcoming release" to start on 3/30 and end on 4/6. I think this should pretty much take care of the "we must do them!" task list for Marketing for F13 - there's a much longer log detailing more plans for the release cycle at http://meetbot.fedoraproject.org/fedora-mktg/2009-12-22/fedora-mktg.2009-12…, but they're more in the area of "areas of opportunity we want to keep an eye on at these points in time," so I think we'd rather keep the Marketing schedule relatively sparse for the time being. Once we finish the SOPs for each deliverable, and pick the talking points and feature profiles, we might want to add more detail for the middle month (between Alpha release and Beta release), but this is what we have for now. F13 Schedule - question!

On poelcat's F13 draft schedule (see: http://poelstra.fedorapeople.org/schedules/f-13-draft/f-13-marketing-tasks.…), tasks 13 and 15 are to update / freeze the Fedora tour page. Since we're doing the one-page release notes in lieu of the Fedora tour page, should we remove those tasks from the schedule (I'm assuming so...)? Should the one-page release notes draft / completion dates be rearranged to be more in line with when the Fedora tour pages were done, or are we comfortable with those dates and how they fall into the grander scheme of things? Also - shall we put a note on https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Tours reflecting that we now do one-pg release notes instead of Tours, so that anyone looking for a Tour isn't wondering why the heck we didn't have one for F12 (or F13, and so forth)? -Robyn PS. I may have asked this already... I looked through my mail and didn't see anything about it. Apologies if I already brought it up :D

FAD and some other stuff

Hi, Attached is a ODS of plane fare for the Marketing FAD compiled from me lazily searchingk kayak... They are only rough estimates and will probably get more expensive as time goes on... looks like the cheapest place for us to meet is DC, followed by Boston. Personally, I'm leaning towards Boston or Raleigh (which is third) if only because of the Red hat offices there... Mel Robyn and I talked a while last night (this morning? who knows, I don't...) and came up with some ideas for what we could be doing at the FAD... Some of it relies on there being a contingent of engineers on hand either in person or remotely, so the RH offices would probably be a pretty cool place. Here's the zodbot log... I have some boring thing to do as day job. An atmosphere filled with opportunities and challenges stimulates my brain. - Learn. Since I started using GNU/Linux and free software I learned a lot every single day. I need new things to keep up the learning process. - Give back. I have been given a lot in this community and I think is fair to return. - Find my niche. As I am not a technical person I still struggle a bit to fin my place within the community. I am already helping in Ambassadors and Freemedia. - Build a strong community in Central American countries (Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama). Perhaps run a "mini" FUDCon or FAD * What do you want to talk about? - Applications: There is a lot of software in Fedora repos that is useful and is not promoted. Non technical people does not see the beauty on the OS, they look for a tool to solve a task. I want to say to every one that Fedora has those tools. * What would you like to see in Fedora? - more stuff with fedora logo, like coffee mugs, disk-wallets ... probably I am dreaming but I think that using our logo shows our pride and convince people to use fedora, or at least give it a try. -more ordinary people tales using Fedora. Show that you don't need to know every byte of Fedora to be able to use and contribute. * Anything else you'd like to do? - Share my experience dealing with local newspapers, so we can increase world wide media hits. - Help improve fedora distribution program. * Historical qualifications I have ran the family business for some years (2001-2005), among other task I have to decide about marketing, advertisement, promotions and sales. Now I have give sapce to my sister to lead, but still involved in marketing efforts. * What other projects or marketing efforts have you worked on in the past? (List what you think is relevant) - When the University launched the Tourism degree, I was hired as consultant. Among a lot of designing teaching programs I had to represent the faculty and tour high schools promoting this class program. - I have been working with local user groups, we have earned the distinction of best Software Freedom Day event world wide two years in a row. We were expecting get the third but event competition was delayed and not awarded. - I have been running a promotional web site listing night events for my city: http://clickmanagua.com - I maintain the local fedora page (yes, another fedora page!) http://fedora.org.ni * What level and type of marketing skills do you have? - I can write (I do it better in Spanish!), I can teach, I like to think in roles and try to be on some one else's shoes to see if the concepts proposed are compelling. I have been working conceptualizing web sites and worked as consultant for a system usability assessment. * What other skills do you have that might be applicable? - I have a amateur radio licence, I am following fedora amateur radio SIG. Contributor Spotlight Podcast

Hey all, At a few weeks' ago marketing(may have been ambassadors?) meeting, I drug Paul Mellors (cc'd) into a discussion with Max Spevack and I about creating a podcast where various Fedora contributors would be interviewed by the host(s) about what they do in the project, how they found Fedora, why they are a member, etc etc etc... Well, I think that such a thing would be a good marketing project, and think that the new year would be the perfect time to start it up. Max said he had some ideas on the podcast, and so did Paul, so I think it would be a good idea to start up this discussion again, in a mailing list. I don't know if Paul is a member of this list (I think so) but hopefully he doesn't mind joining in on the discussion :) Mine are, in essence, that first paragraph, it's a pretty straightforward idea, I think. We'd brainstorm a list of contributors; not just big names, but a lot of the newer developers, too. This has, I think, a two-fold effect: It gets new developers who get featured -really- excited and the chance to promote $project of theirs, and it shows people who may be thinking about contributing just how easy it can be. Thoughts? Brand Fuel Baseball Cap manufacturer

Hey Max, all, Ambassadors were discussing in IRC about ordering some Fedora embroidered baseball caps for event swag, and the general consensus was that the Brand Fuel caps were really nice, and it would be cool if we could get them ordered from their manufacturer. Do you (Max) or anyone on either marketing or ambassadors have any details on the manufacturer that Brand Fuel uses and how we could get in contact with them?
