Self-Introduction: Alvin Abaya

Alvin Abaya I decided to try and get involved with the Fedora Project around 2014. I always wanted to get into Linux growing up; however, I never was able to get my network/wifi card to work. Luckily when I tried again a few years ago, I was lucky to have a brand that worked with the default drivers - I was finally able to begin my journey and start learning after all these years. My jobs revolved around data centers for most of my I.T. career. Recently it has been with VMware and SAP. Since we’re a heavy RHEL shop, I chose Fedora to help me further develop my skills. As of today, I still can’t think of anything! But I’ve been lurking at #fedora-admin to see if there’s anything I can help with since I’m currently in Infrastructure related duties at work. - Since I’m still new to the Fedora Community, I decided to be a part of the Ambassadors Project to try and share to others what Linux is, to not be scared of it, and to learn it through the use of Fedora. It helped me improve my system administration skills and confidence and I wanted to give back to the community that helped me achieve that. - Since I want to be involved with the Ambassador Project, I thought I should be involved with Marketing as well since they go hand and hand. I would love to help as much as I can but would probably like to work helping clean the wiki first. After a few weeks of attending the meetings and hearing the events going on within Fedora, hopefully I’ll learn enough to be able to branch off and help with other parts of Fedora’s marketing strategies. Partnership opportunity with freenode!

Hey everyone, A few weeks back, you may have received an IRC notice from the freenode staff about their community team and a blog post they had authored on their website. https://freenode.net/news/community In short, the freenode community team is looking for more ways to engage with the open source communities throughout freenode and to showcase the awesome work happening throughout freenode. I reached out via email to their community team to see if Fedora could try to help pilot something with regards to these new outreach efforts. Fortunately, the freenode folks have been more than kind to help provide us with some awesome opportunities! This is exciting because I think we will be helping drive this effort throughout the entire freenode community as positive role models. There's two things they were hoping to work with us on: 1) Articles about the Fedora Project, the Fedora community, or other exciting news about Fedora for the freenode blog and other platforms 2) Hosting an AMA on IRC to accompany a blog post for community members across freenode to ask questions about Fedora and engage with the project They were also interested in having general articles about open source, IRC tips, etc. that could be a good opportunity to showcase technical expertise from Fedora community members for sharing across freenode. One of the first things I would like to help put together for this is a general, introductory article about Fedora for a broad open source audience. It seems like an obvious thing to do, but I was having troubles locating any kind of "usual spiel" on this. Since it's something fundamental to identifying Fedora in the open source community, I wasn't sure if there was any kind of content like this available already we could pull from? If not, I would be happy to try writing something up and getting feedback from the rest of the team, but I figured I would ask first before accidentally duplicating work. Thanks everyone! Hi everyone! My name is Donald Hardin and I am a Fedora enthusiast desiring to contribute to the project. I have a background in linux system administration, technical writing, and programming. I am a former employee of Red Hat, inc which fueled my love, interest, and appreciation for software engineering and all-things-open. I am currently a student at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro where i am doing some postgrad work in the Computer Science curriculum. I want to become a formidable software engineer as my interests lie within the web development domain. I also enjoy writing. I have some ideas for articles that I would like to contribute towards Fedora Magazine, including one that is ready to be pitched immediately. I would also be happy to collaborate with other authors and assist in any way I can. I hope you will grant me access to draft posts on the fedora magazine wordpress instance. ics file not working under google calendar ...
