Saaamba..Points to be discussed!!

1. The underscore used to underline the followed character, Where i should put this character '_'? 2. What about the Slash..I find it in the translation itself not the originial script.. Shall i remove it or does it mean anything.. 3. Sometimes i don't know if this word is noun or verb; it could be informative message or window label or action needed from the user..For Example: Create, modify, and delete samba shares = أنشء، عدّل، واحذف مُشاركات سامبا Create, modify, and delete samba shares = إنشاء، تعديل، وحذف مُشاركات سامبا not clear enough to me :) Add a Samba share = أضف مُشاركة سامبا oR[ Samba أضف مشاركة جديدة تحت خادم ] _Add Share = /_ملف/إ_ضافة مُشاركة [why the translation looks like that, shall i change it to إضافة مشاركة] No guest account = guest لا يوجد حساب لمستخدم [did not transilitate the word guest] Visible = مرىء [or مشاركة مرئية] Visibility = رؤية [Not enough to say vision; مدى رؤية المشاركة yuk!! any better suggestion] O_nly allow access to specific users = اسمح بالوصول _فقط لمستخدمين محدّدين or it better to change it to مسموح فقط للمستخدمين المحددين

Do we have any Web Developers within?

$SUBJECT I have noticed that we have a lot of ppl here. Some of them shy to speak. A lot with no experience with CVS and Linux at all. Yet, they would joined the mailing list. I was thinking for a way to get the shy people to participate in more effective way without trying to educate them how to use CVS, and/or educate them how to use Linux. So here is what I am thinking about. CVS Mirror to match what is on Red Hat translation servers. That will give us: - Control over our members - Update our Keys - Better, and faster management - Central update process Now to my next idea as we gonna have our own CVS, and files available to us on filesystem where the web interface has access to it. I was wondering if we can develop something that parse all the CVS files, give template form that allow ppl who has no experience to just fill in a form and submit this translation. The point here is: - Need PHP to parse and format the forms - PHP submit the changes to MySQL DB, waiting for Maintainer approval - Maintainer check the translation and click approve, hence the updates goes to the PO files on the file system, and trigger a CVS sync to Red Hat Server. So the question is: Do we have any PHP/MySQL developer here who can try to accomplish the above? Thanks Sherif

.PO &.txt?.. what makes PO Very Special!!

Ok.. got another question.. what's the difference between .txt and .po .. sure there is a difference.. but am thinking about how to deal parse and rebuild PO file from java code.. we need to read po file each to update the db..so we need to do some parsing work and understand how to read it..the second time i need to deal with PO file when am populating the data backward from the db into the files; modify the already existing file or create a new one.. what if i did treat it as a text file that am looking for say "daemon" take it with its translation, know if it's translation is fuzzy or not.. and then populate the data into db table. vice verse.. i want to create or modify PO file.. I'll be looking for a keywords and change the text or a value of a header.. that's it!! i guess so :)) We have 3 significant data in PO file: 1- The original string and its translation; search on *msgid*&*msgstr*keywords 2- Knowing whether or not the string is fuzzy; by searching on this "*#, fuzzy*" in the header of the current string am parsing on.. 3- The file headers.. for example..at the top of samba file you will see this section and it's existing in each po file: # translation of system-config-samba.po to Arabic # This file is distributed under the same license as the PACKAGE package. # Copyright (C) YEAR THE PACKAGE'S COPYRIGHT HOLDER. *# Ossama M. FYI.. i did not read the source of kbabel yet.. i get shocked when i tried to look for a piece of code that reads the strings from PO file..which is doing what?! i get lost and frustrated after this try.. i don't remember C.. what a shame!! While checking the web CVS, I had a look at the anaconda file, a quick notes for things I saw: #: ../anaconda:159 msgid "Unable to set vnc password - using no password!" msgstr "لم يمكن تحديد كلمة السّر - استخدام دون كلمة سرّ!" It does not sound like proper translation. I think it should be: غير قادر على تثبيت كلمة سر VNC #: ../anaconda:880 msgid "" "No mouse was detected. A mouse is required for graphical installation. " "Starting text mode." msgstr "لم يعثر على ماوس. التثبيت الرّسوميّ يتطلّب وجود واحدة. بدء التثبيت النّصّي." We Should translate mouse ! So it should read: لم يعثر على فأره ..التثبيت الرّسوميّ يتطلّب وجود فأرهThere are some other stuff I think it needs seriousreview.Your thoughts?Sherif
