That is simply not true, on ARM systems without an RTC having a wrong date (of by a couple of years) is a big problem. Once the date is of far enough (in either direction) SSL certificate checks start to fail. And once that happens a lot of things break including "dnf update"
Incorrect system time and sudden jumps in the system time (which can happen if the time is set wrong during install and corrected by NTP after install) can also cause issues with DHCP and Kerberos.
Which *still* aren't a problem because you'd already setup the timezone in gnome-initial-setup by the time you encountered those.
