Due to schedule constraints and other time commitments, Rex Dieter and Paul Frields are looking to step down from the Working Group. We really appreciate the work that Rex and Paul have put in over the last several years! So, we're looking for at least two new members. If we have more than two good candidates, we'll consider increasing the size of the WG.
The basic goal of the Workstation Working Group is to move forward the Workstation Edition of Fedora forward - the WG is responsible for making sure we ship a polished product, for making decisions about proposed technical changes that are specific to the Workstation, and for setting the overall direction for future development of the Workstation Edition. There is a particular emphasis at the moment on the Silverblue project - on making Fedora work great as an image and container based operating system.
Responsibilities of a WG member are:
- Attend and participate in bi-weekly IRC meetings. Currently these
are at 13:00 UTC on Mondays - the day and (to some extent) the time will be reconsidered when we have a final composition.
- Take action items at the meetings and follow up - actions usually
involve communication and research.
- Follow issues reported against
https://pagure.io/fedora-workstation/, and bring things that come to your attention that need working group attention there.
We'd like the new members to increase the diversity of viewpoints represented in the working group. So, we'd especially encourage participation from people, who meet some of the following criteria:
- From groups underrepresented in Free and Open Source Software
- Not working for Red Hat
- Not directly working on the GNOME desktop
If you are interested in joining the Working Group team, or think you might be interested and have questions, please mail me privately or follow up here.
Thanks! Owen Taylor otaylor@redhat.com
Hi Owen and all,
I would be interested in participating in the Workstation Working Group.
During my nearly 20 years of using and developing FOSS, I have seen many changes and the requirements of the user and developer change when it comes to distribution choice. The workstation is my choice when using fedora and to be allowed to help in shaping its future would be very welcome and honour.
I come from a stand point of interest in fedora workstation for business, voluntary groups and social enterprises. There are other use cases I know of and new ones that I would like to explore in the future.
I am currently preparing computing courses to deliver myself to Horton Housing Association clients at their Bradford training centre here in the UK. These clients come from a variety of backgrounds, which include homelessness, drug, alcohol issues and other complex needs. Just to be clear here... I am a recovering alcoholic myself, one that no longer drinks at all.
Do not work for Red Hat. :-D
While a GNOME user, a fedora co-maintainer for gnome-maps and do bits upstream, I am not overly involved with the GNOME desktop and see merit in other libraries and desktop application offerings. Always have an open mind.
I have begun to watch the 'fedora-workstation' group on pagure and am now am receiving emails on all activity. This just adds a few to the mountain of RHEL/CentOS, fedora and upstream projects I already receive.
I have the ability and freedom to perform the tasks as stated in the main email.
Thank you reading and if asked to become part of the group, it would be an honour.
Regards
Phil
