Hi all Boy, is this hard. I want to send out a formal apology to the mailing list for the ... less than helpful responses I've sent out, two in the last couple of minutes. My only excuse, poor as it is, is I've just had two beers last night before going to sleep, and I guess it affected my temper. That, and "windows just works" comments really irritate me. I should really try not to take it out on people, but I'm not good at that. Now that we're on the subject, suggestions on how I can avoid this in the future are welcome. I seem incapable of doing it myself. I'm all for using what you want, but sometimes I get carried away with what I use, and forget that other people use other distros. An obvious one, but shrug. Thanks Kendell clark Sent from Fedora GNU/Linux

Thanks Kendell. I think it can be particularly hard to admit mistakes on the internet, but of course we're all human. Thanks for doing your part to help keep the "friends" in the Fedora foundations.

Tip of that hat to you, kudos for taking ownership. It is human to err, it's all in how we handle ourselves when we do.
+1 for keeping the Fedora foundations alive and well.

hi all Thanks for your nice responses. I wanted to elaborate a bit. This might be a bit long, so go get a cup of coffee or something. I switched to fedora because I value free and open source software, and think it can be a nice alternative to windows and OSX. I'm very, very sensitive to what I perceive as threats to open source, and feel obligated to respond in kind. In other words, if I think I've seen a "windows just works" or similar comment, about all I hear out of that entire post is "windows and "just works" You could explain your entire position and I'd likely not hear it, hearing only "linux sucks, it'll never get anywhere, you should switch back to windows, join the herd" It's a poor excuse, I know, but I've had very, very bad experiences with windows users trying to get them interested in linux, so I'm not as helpful as I probably should be. If you require windows to do something in your work or home that linux can't do, I really can't argue, even though I usually have urge to do just that. What gets me are the "it's too hard to learn about why fedora doesn't have mp3 codecs, why can't it just install them" I'm one of those people who think a system should be as free of blobs as possible. If you're one of those people that think for linux to get anywhere you should be able to sit down at a computer, turn it on, do everything you want to do without having to learn anything, we'll have to agree to disagree. My only defense is, if I snap at you, i'm probably not snapping at you, but at the "ha ha ha, windows wins, linux has lost" that I hear when reading posts like that. I think some of the pressure on fedora might be solved when, or if, industries move away from mp3 and start using patent free codecs. It just makes business sense, what little I know about such things. You don't have to pay royalties for every device you make, and the file size is usually smaller and sounds better. As for hardware drivers, this is probably for the why people aren't switching to fedora thread, I'm on the side of linux here. I'm also blind, and am tired of seeing and hearing about, blind users on windows being gouged for the right to use their computers, so I'm aiming to fix this. I feel under a lot of pressure nearly constantly, and that doesn't improve my mood. I'm (I think) one of the only people filing bugs against ... well, anything with an accessibility issue, as well as writing in to the orca list, writing for opensource.com (something I'm very proud to do), keeping up with all the bug comments, maintaining a blind specific linux distro, it's a lot to do. So when I hear what I think is a "window sjust works" comment, it immediately brings to mind a bunch of people happily walking out of stores with their shiny new computers, not having to worry about a thing, while I'm over here filing bugs, trying to get blind people to switch (usually not having any luck), and trying not to snap at the people who use other OSes. Ok, I'm done. I hope I've helped just a little bit. I've already snapped at two people today, and for that I apologize. One had absolutely nothing to do with windows, but it kinda got the same reaction from me, probably because I completely misinterpreted the post, adding tone where there was none Thanks Kendell clark Sent from Fedora GNU/Linux

Kendell, Personally, I believe you accomplish and contribute a lot to making open source, and Fedora a better place. Thank you. Being a person who is optimistic and motivated towards positivity (that's me all around), I suggest you consider a few things as you continue. You are doing good, so my statements here are simply suggestions for your consideration. In moments where you find your tone or mood less then on the up-and-up (or could be)... take a break, pause the message writing and breathe. Breathe deeply. Ponder the weight of your words in THAT message. Reflect on whether your message is positive, optimistic, constructive and effective. Your recent/previous message(s) are worthwhile of consideration, yet 10 days from now, very very few people are going to remember the specifics of your heartfelt and well-meant apology of today, much less your extended explanation here. The impact you have, in actuality, is conveyed by your deeds, and words... which can and should be consistent, day after day. With that approach, you'll rarely ever need to apologize. Finally, I recognize you are blind, yet most who do read with their eyeballs, could benefit from a few extra line-breaks in your messages. Breaking up sequences of thoughts into visually obvious paragraphs makes your contributions easier to read.
