Hello,
I would like to know where we can translate the "Add/Remove Software" we found in the GNOME Applications menu.
I asked on #fedora-l10n and I was told it remains a mystery. However, it is very important to translate these words as well.
Regards,
i found that:
grep "Add/Remove" translate/*/el.po
system-config-packages/el.po:msgid "Add/Remove Applications"

I can't find it in the Pirut module at all. Why? I compared the number of entries for pirut in es.po (113) and in fr.po (84). why are they different? There are other packages that don't have the same number of entries. Why ?? That's weird.
We (french translators) are lacking 453 entries from the spanish.
Can you explain that?

"cvs update" does not checkout modules, you have to add it manually

Not sure how this works, but not all modules are updated automatically when their pot template changes, you have to do it manually via "msgmerge"...

Great! Thanks I now understand. Is there a way to know when a .po file template needs to be updated or not?

Maybe there's a better one, but I just pay close attention to the list of updated files when I do a "cvs update".

String merging with latest POT files is Maintainer/Translator's choice.
whenever you get "P" status for POT file in module, please merge your language file with that as this is more reliable method.
We (french translators) are lacking 453 entries from the spanish.
Can you explain that?
this is true for all packages
regards
I had the same problem with the pt_BR.po file and I notice that the pt.po also has less entries than the Spanish one. We have to be attentive because maybe there are other modules out of date too. I updated the file with this command: msgmerge -U pt_BR.po pirut.pot

This is the command I was told. But one questions remains. As I am a new contributor for the French translation and that nobody took care of our .po files for several months, how can I be sure that every fr.po files are synchronised with the .pot files. In other words, can we know the number of string all the pot files have.
I also add that the most synchronised language at the moment is not Spanish, but Punjabi :)

Well, that's why po files have the "POT-Creation-Date: " field, if it's older than the same field in the pot file you then know you need to update it. Or, if you don't want to go through all the 54 modules manually, you can bite the bullet and msgmerge all of them in a find script, it shouldn't hurt the ones that are already in sync...

Here is my procedure, as it worked fine (on windz):
- I opened up two browser windows, one with Punjabi, and onother with mine (Croatian) - I wrote down the modules with less lines - then I took POT files (name of the pot file is the same as the name of the module) - Open up PO file in poEdit - if file is bigger (like desc or summyry), let the poEdit check out the file (running numbers at the bottom of the poEdit window) - on main menu choose: Catalog -> Update from POT file - if POT file is in it place you will see it immediately, so double click it - poEdit will compare PO and POT and tell you about new and OBSOLETE lines (I gues, those that are degrated to the rank of fuzzy) - click OK and that's it
If you cannot run poEdit, send me both PO and POT and I will update them as described.
Hope this helps

It would be good if the cvs administrator make a script to do it automatically, since some translators do not know the msgmerge procedure or do not have time to do it with all the modules. Anyway, I told to the translators of my locale to be aware on translating or reviewing a module.

Ok, if we merge Automatically, then All PO files are Updated in each Single Module, so each user have to download "Each" language, where All languages are not Active, so may be problem for some Translators.
thanks
You are right, I imagined that the script could be ran once a month, or something like that. But, if it will really cause other problems it is better to let the translators/maintainers merge the files.
I appreciate your attention, Igor Pires Soares
