Hi!
In the recent weeks I discovered that Italian team is a bit abandoned, coordinators are unreachable and the activity on the mailing list is not very high. I recently joined in Fedora project, and I want to contribute starting from localization, but the absence of coordinators is preventing me to contribute (still today, after four weeks of request, I am not approved in the Italian team on Zanata).
For this reason I would like to become a coordinator of my team, replacing Silvio Pierro (perplex) and Gianluca Sforna (giallu), the current coordinators. I sent an announcement[0] on the local mailing list and other people seem to like my decision.
Now, the wiki page on how to become a coordinator seems a bit old[1], so I don't know what I need to do (especially who do I need to ask to get Zanata access and other similar things).
I have another problem: on FAS I've requested to join on cvsl10n group, but after four weeks no one have accepted me.
Thanks in advance, Emanuele

Hi, I'm unsure to understand all the conversation in the Italian mailing list, I think having some Italian contributor to confirm this here in English would make it explicit. Then you'll be welcome to update the wiki page, and Zanata team But this is not a huge issue not to have any active coordinator.
What is an issue is you not being able to contribute.

What is your FAS account? I can't see you (or can't make the link with your mail address) in the list of cvsl10n requests.
I added Silvio Pierro (perplex) and Gianluca Sforna (giallu) in CC, in hope they may see this exchange.

Indeed, not to have a coordinator is an issue for new contributors.
Like in this case: if we have a person that would like to contribute, usually he doesn't know where to start, and even if other contributors are able to point him to useful documents to read and they are able to drive him in the first steps, the newcomer doesn't have the rights to simply modify the wiki pages, and no one is able to help him (at least he should contact the international group).
I mean, if the work of a coordinator should be to have an overview of what it is important to translate, priorities, status of the project, you are right that not to have a coordinator is not a big issue: all in all every translator will translate what he want or what he is more interested in. It is better to have a coordinator, but translations can going on even if he is unavailable for some time.
But in the eyes of a newcomer, the first impression in not to have a responsive coordinator or at least someone that is able to give him the rights to use the tools (wiki, zanata, etc.), it isn't a nice impression. Waiting three weeks in order to be able to edit the wiki, it seems a bit unpleasant, IMO.
So, if this new contributor (FAS: emape), instead of run away from the project (that IMO it could be a normal reaction to such situation), he volunteer himself to become a new coordinator of the Italian translation team, I think that we should welcome him!
Ciao, A.

We think a coordinator is mandatory because our processes requires : * a validation to join Zanata, * and a validation to join an obscure FAS group "cvsl10n" (for wiki edit and vote), * and a self introduction.
I hope we will be able someday to let people join and translate as they wish, and send them an invitation to be part of the team/community and introduce themselves if they wish to. This would bring more resilience, flexibility and save time for everyone. Self organization is often sufficient.

I'm fine with that, but we don't know if someone will oppose this request. I The thing is we should respect the previous coordinator and let them a chance to react and to say themselves if they wish to continue or pass over. That's the reason why we do it in the open. I remember we already discussed this two years ago, but don't remember if we decided to wait two weeks or more to the previous coordinator.
Anyway, it would be great to have a second candidate to Italian team coordinator to prevent a new blocked situation in the future.
Hi,
What is your FAS account? I can't see you (or can't make the link with your mail address) in the list of cvsl10n requests.
After the previous email Francesco Tombolini (tombo) sponsored me, but he is a sponsor, not a coordinator.
But I don't have still today Zanata permission to contribute, because there a no coordinators active.

I assume you did a request there: https://fedora.zanata.org/language/view/it I sent a personal message to Noriko and Piotr who are admins of Zanata to solve this. Maybe Alex Aeng is one too? If he reads us.
Hi,
Piotr Drąg gave me the permission on Zanata, finally. Now I can start to contribute effectively, but what about my request to become coordinator?
Hi, I've just read all the requests, i'm one of the old coordinators but i'm not active anymore, so I accept the new role of Emanuele Petriglia an let me know if you need some activities from me.
Sorry for the late reply.
