Hi Tiansworld and all translators
As pointed by Tiansworld, I think it is good timing to have good updated guide where new translators can rely on.
I found that Jullie, new translator from French team has developed quick guide called 'Translating offline with Zanata' in .odt format. This is very useful for translators who work offline. I had a chat with her, and now she is happy to develop new complete guide and integrate her quick guide into it as section.
Tiansworld, anyone, would you be interested to join and help her? We are looking at to develop in xml format so that people can share and work certain section concurrently as well all contributors can receive credits. Alternatively, we can update the guide on wiki page, but not both.
Please let us know your preferred format and/or suggestion!
Thanks
noriko

Yes, I am glad to help on this.
In my opinion, we can first write the guide on wiki page, because I think it's relatively easy to use(I haven't used xml format before to write things :D). After the wiki page is done, then we can convert it to xml format.
Anyway, I'm glad to help.
Hi Tiansworld,
Thank you for offering your help!
Working on wiki first before moving the content to xml sounds fine to me.
How would you like to collaborate? We could work by sections like Noriko suggested.
Julie

Hi Julie, I agree with you. Work by sections is a good way on this. We can arrange the section titles first according to your guide and the old guide[1]. And then fill the sections one by one.
Some sections in the old guide are still useful, so we can reuse them. By the way, I created new wiki page[2] for the guide. If the name is OK, we will start there.
What do you think?

Hi Tiansworld,
Thank you for creating the new wiki page! We will start from there.
We can keep most of the old guide and update it as needed. My guide can replace the section "5.3 Translating offline".
Just letting you know that I will be on annual leave from December 11th to January 6th so I will not be able to start before I get back unfortunately.
We can talk again at my return and divide some sections between us if that sounds good to you?
Thank you
Julie

It's OK. While during this month I can add section titles or some easy content when I have free time. So after you are back at work, we can work on details, screenshots and more.
Sounds good to me Tiansworld! Thanks!
Julie

Dear translators,
The new L10n guide is now 80% completed. Julie and I are still working on it. You are welcome to view it now and give your suggestions[1].
Noriko, Shall we add the link to here[2] when it's done?

Great work!
In Testing section, you can add how to test documentation (getting sources from upstream project, getting zanata.ini, getting translated messages, building the documentation) as well as the required publican packages for doing so. You can also explain how to build a local repo to test software translations, or simple doing "sudo cp <lang-code>.mo /usr/share/locale/ca/LC_MESSAGES/<app>.mo".
A local repo is very usefull when you are trying to test Anaconda by making an installation media with pungi. [1]

There is also a difference between document and software translations, software translations are always under upstream-src/po folder whereas that in document translations use the main upstream-src folder, for that reason we have to use two different command to get the translations from zanata:
documentation: zanata-cli -B pull --src-dir=./ --trans-dir=./ -l <lang-code> software: zanata-cli -B pull --src-dir=./po --trans-dir=./po -l <lang-code>

Thanks for the info.
I will add testing section ASAP. Translation offline is still in draft, I think Julie will update it frequently later.

You may also notice that Zanata also capable of translating .odt file. :-)
