Hi,
I am pleased to announce a new mailing list, publican-announce-list,
which will be used for Publican announcements.
It would be fantastic if all writers and translator join.
Use the following link to subscribe to publican-announce-list:

I heartily apologize for yet another change. This one adds two (2) very
small untranslated strings, and was *required* to cope with a stupid
license on a particular piece of Fedora software. That license still
completely qualifies as free and open source software, but just has some
really annoying terms we have to meet. The bulk of the text I had to
include is wrapped in a CDATA container so you don't need to translate
much other than a small title and a very short sentence.
Again, very sorry. I will make every effort to change NOTHING else at
this point.

I have one new string we really should include in the Release Notes for
F9 GA. I'm sorry to bring this in late -- I should have included it
yesterday but missed the change from an email someone sent me.
I've added it to the wiki PackageNotes beat, but it will add 1
untranslated string to the POT. Does anyone have very strong objections
to the change?

A quick reminder that we have the deadline for translation submission
for Fedora 9 on the 7th of April. Translations submitted after this
date can't be guaranteed to be included in Fedora 9. To see the
translation statistics of your language, visit the following link
(substituting <lang> with your locale):
http://translate.fedoraproject.org/languages/<lang>/fedora-9
You can get your language's files using the following commands and
submit them as usual through Transifex, at
https://translate.fedoraproject.org/submit/.
export MYLANG=<lang-code>
wget -q -r -N -l 1 --accept *$MYLANG.po -nd -nH -P pofiles
http://translate.fedoraproject.org/languages/$MYLANG/fedora-9
I'll send an email to fedora-devel-announce and ask maintainers to
repackage before the feature freeze of 8/4. If you notice a package in
Rawhide that hasn't been rebuilt after 7/4, please let the maintainer
know (and have me CC'd as well). In the next release we'll make sure
to have a bigger gap between these two days.
Finally, as far as the Mercurial-hosted projects in Transifex are
concerned (commits aren't pushed upstream) -- I'll manually merge
Transifex's local branch (head, actually) some time in the weekend and
pray this will work.

Subject: release notes POT/PO updates delayed by a few hours

From: Karsten 'quaid' Wade <kwade(a)redhat.com>
To: fedora-trans-announce(a)redhat.com
The Fedora 9 final release notes are not yet ready for final
translation.
We are fixing a few issues and doing some final content updates. I
expect we will have the problems resolved within the next eight hours;
another announcement will be sent at that time.
Thank you for your patience,
- Karsten

Yes, this should be updated. The L10N project is responsible for the
content, so I'm cc'ing this reply to fedora-trans-list for information.

In the spirit of making our website more l10n-friendly, we want to try
translating the F9 release counter this time around. Unfortunately, we
weren't able to just stuff all of this into a PO file, as the placement
of the text may need to be adjusted for different languages.
Here's how we'd like to do it:
At http://ricky.fedorapeople.org/fedora9-countdown-banner.svg, we have
an SVG file that you should be able to open with inkscape:
sudo yum install inkscape
inkscape http://ricky.fedorapeople.org/fedora9-countdown-banner.svg
In Inkscape, we pretty much just need the string: "released in ... days"
to be translated. Feel free to move the number around, but there's no
need to change the value (please keep it with arabic numerals, since
we're going to be generating the images for each day).
Transifex should give translators access to upload this SVG in the po
directory (just save it to po/fedora9-countdown-banner.LANG.svg).
I'm really curious to see how this will work out. It's not a *absolute*
requirement, but it'd sure be nice to have that part of the site be
translated as well :)
Let us know if you have any questions/issues.
Thanks,
Ricky

For the first time, the nomination period for the to-be formed Fedora
Localization Steering Committee is now open. FLSCo will consist of 7
people from our translation community and these will be the project
leaders for the upcoming 6 months.
Want to be part of all this? Have some briljant ideas for making the
translation project even better? Sign up on de nominations page at
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/L10N/SteeringCommittee/Nominations/2008
Nominations are open from April 7th until April 13th.
The election will take place from April 14th until April 20th.
All members of the cvsl10n group in the Fedora Accounts System have the
right to become member of FLSCo and will be able to vote in the
election.
You might be asking why we are doing this? Because it's the right thing
to do, and it also happens to be required by the Fedora Project. We feel
that a lot of people in this project have great ideas and fresh points
of view which will help the Fedora L10N Project become way better!
More information on the election can be found at:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/L10N/SteeringCommittee/Elections
More information on FLSCo can be found at:

Thanks for all your hard work with the translation of Fedora 9!
